Presentation

The new Zuma is even easier with improved performance in the low range.

With a good glide when paddling thanks to its relaxed rocker and round point nose, the Zuma is one of the fastest SUP foiling boards to paddle. A real asset in soft waves or for riders of an intermediate level. It takes off earlier, and it’s obvious in downwinds. Its very wide square tail provides stability during the waiting phase and releases water without restraint. Directly inspired by the Lethal’s magic tail, the new Zuma takes off 2nds earlier. And that’s a big difference because you don’t have to paddle, to sail overpowered or to exhaust yourself pumping. As soon as you paddle or take the wing you feel that the Zuma is just asking to fly.

The shape of the hull with a double concave on the nose dampens contact with the water and guides the board in the axis before take off. A FCS II box under the nose to clip a fin stops the drift. It’s really easier to hold a trajectory. And you can simply remove it without any tools. You are free to use it or not, depending on your needs. We love this little extra that makes it easier for you to get started before your first flights. You can sail relaxed, in 6/8 knots of wind, and work on maneuvers on the water before doing them in the air.
In flight the stability is great. Keeping a little length brings inertia that will erase all your piloting errors. It’s really a big plus at the start as a more lively board could be too technical.

In SUP foiling, the length allows you to go up to the peak without having to struggle. You can take full advantage of the waves, without fussing over the distance to rejoin the peak. It’s a board you can pump, but not over 300m. With a good technique you’ll connect the waves of the set, but is that really the point? A Zuma is a bit like a SUP foiling cruiser: the glide is awesome with no worries about paddling.

In wing foiling the Zuma works very well, especially for people with no gliding experience, because this extra little length offers momentum to take off and stability. The Zuma does not rely on liveliness, on the contrary it relies on gentleness and progressiveness. This is the zen version of wing foiling.

Shape

We keep a little length to facilitate paddling in SUP, this is crucial. And in wing foiling, that’s what will get you off the ground early without having to pump like crazy.

The hull with its double concave under the nose guides the board and dampens the touchdowns by dissipating energy. The Zuma is smooth and very fluid.

 

The facets on the rails allow you to fly serenely without being afraid of braking hard on the slightest touchdown on a chop or in tight curves. The rails are full for great lateral stability.

The tail inherited from the Lethal is a benchmark in terms of pre-flight flow management. Your board no longer sticks before flying. It’s really released from the water surface, it’s super fun and obviously efficient. And it looks very pretty in the air.

The flat deck optimises control and the feel is directly in sync with the action.

 

Equipements

The set of footstraps is offered with the board. Comfortable and light, they offer perfect support for your feet even in the craziest tricks. In the straps set-up for wing foiling, the V-shaped footstrap perfectly centers the foot on the front of the board. The position is thus more natural and allows direct and precise control in maneuvers. In the straps set-up for SUP foiling, the V-shaped footstrap is replaced by a second single footstrap, also included in the set.

Multi-position SUP/wing straps inserts and US foil mount track box for a multitude of adjustments and to quickly find the ideal position in SUP as well as in wing.

The integral and high-end 5mm thick Diamond pad provides maximum grip and comfort when sailing, while protecting the board from shocks.

 

 

The central front fin Anti Drift System axes the board as if it was on rails, but without ever hindering the ability to take angle in the curves.

 

 

The handle is on the hull to allow one-handed carrying. You can have the paddle or the wing in the other hand to get through the whitewater or exit the water.  And as we always do things seriously, the handle is placed in a block of hydrophobic PVC foam and covered with fiber.

 

Construction

These boards are equipped with our innovative and high-end technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market. It’s quite simply the ultimate in custom vacuum fiberglass techno, as standard.

The PVC forms a 3mm hydrophobic shell over the entire board. And the biaxial fiberglass that fully covers the board boosts its performance and greatly strengthens the board for increased durability.

The foil boxes are placed in a large PVC 80kg/m3 reinforcement thicker than the boxes. Without any risk of water infiltration in the EPS foam blank, even with an intense impact.  This reinforcement is connected to the PVC sandwich of the deck with PVC slats to ensure the cohesion of the whole and to avoid any play in the reinforcements over the years. Everything is fitted with fiberglass reinforcements for tolerance and carbon to limit bending. The handle is also set in a waterproof PVC block.

Buying guide

For whom?

First for those looking for versatility in wing and SUP foiling.

Its role is to make your life easier and to do everything well. So a pro will probably find it too big and too gentle.

Accessible in SUP foiling by its volume, you must first of all know how to row straight on a classic SUP. The rest is just a matter of method and time in the water to progress, starting with small conditions.

In wing foiling, the Zuma is a super accessible board for a beginner, each size corresponding to a size or a desire for comfort. The extra long ones are for people who want versatility with SUP foiling, or for big riders.

In large volumes it is easy for SUP foiling, but in small sizes it will be necessary to be in good physical condition or to be light.

For what?

The Zuma is the compact but fluid board made to not struggle. Everything is done smoothly.

In SUP foiling, it is ideal for beginners and to progress up to very high performances. Its big advantage is to row quickly, perfect in DW for example, but also not to have to take-off late at each time.

In wing foiling, it’s really the easiest board in the world, without being an anvil. It is great for boosting your progress. Its length helps you to fly early.

What Size?

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR GONG WING FOIL BOARD LANCE FSP 2X

In SUP foil, you absolutely must have a positive volume balance. Your weight plus the Board’s weight must be less than the Board’s volume. Don’t hesitate to take some volume and width if you’re not sure of your supports.

You can gain enough volume to float, in the order of your weight + 30 = volume.

  • Example: I weigh 80kg + 30 = 110L to float. This means that with a 6’3 of 105L I will manage, as long as I don’t start in SUPFoil. And if I want great comfort I will have to switch to the 6’6 of 120L.

In wing foiling, you can take it very generously if you’re a beginner. And if you already have a good level, you will have to go for a limit volume following the same rule as in SUPFoil above.

Understanding the GONG range?

Which quiver?

The Zuma is really the easy to do and all-round Foil Board. So, it’s going to take up a very large part of your quiver.

You can of course complete it with a range of stand-up paddleboards without foil. And surfboards for those days when the waves are unsuitable for foil.

Which foil wings?

In SUP foiling

Beginners will have the fastest progression with a X-Over Surf Foil in size L (whatever their size between 50kg and 85kg)

If you have very small waves or you are a large rider, start with a X-Over Surf Foil in size XL.

If you’re good, start with a Curve Surf Foil in size XL, which is faster.

 

For the intermediate riders

In the X-Over range: super easy and efficient foils at low speed:

  • M for the less than 65kg or powerful waves.
  • L for the less than 75kg.
  • XL for the less than 85kg or mellow waves.
  • XXL for the riders above 85kg or very mellow waves.

 

For experienced riders

In the Curve range: high performance and easy foils that love curves:

  • M for the less than 65kg or powerful waves.
  • M-T for the less than 70kg or powerful waves.
  • L for the less than 75kg.
  • L-T for the less than 85kg.

The size of the front wing conditions the speed/lift ratio. The smaller the front wing, the faster you will go but the more uncomfortable you will be at low speed.

The stabs play a major role. They determine the stability of the foil and help the lift, but at the expense of the maximum speed of the foil.

Thus the X-Over Stabs are slower than the Fluid Stabs or the Veloce Stabs, but are much more load-bearing, and therefore effective at low speed.

Which foil mast?

In SUP foiling

The 65cm aluminium Allvator V2 is perfect. If you are a pro, go for the 70 monobloc: amazing.

In wing foiling

Contrary to kite foil, in wing, you don’t have much opposition to the wing because it pulls gently. So, you don’t put a lot of upwind angle to the mast. So, mastering a big mast in wing is not a problem.

And as the boards used are much bigger than in kitesurfing, the inertia is more important. So, your foil is less wacky. Everything is calmer. So, don’t be afraid of a long mast.

Positioning of the foil?

For GONG foils, place the plate in the rear third when you start and in the center of the US rails when you progress. The Pros can position the foil even further towards the front for more lift and maneuverability.

The more you move it forward, the more the board will pitch nose-up. The more you move it backwards, the more the board nose-dives.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend not to let their back foot work, especially when we come from kite foiling. However, moving the foil back a little, forces more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.

How long is the paddle?

If you want to use the Flint in SUP foil you will need a paddle between your height -10cm and your height. The easiest and least traumatic for your back is to have a paddle at your height.

A long paddle relieves the physical exertion, especially in the lower back as you have to work yourself up at the take off. The effort is intense.

A short paddle gives more speed and less discomfort in the air. But it damages the back because we tend to row too much behind our feet, which forces on the lumbar vertebrae.

What length of paddle?

Which leash?

Take a 6′ of 7mm minimum diameter.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. It is your lifejacket and the life insurance of the people in front of you.

Strap or Strapless?

Riding strapless is sexy because it makes you feel free. But quite honestly, it’s not the best for performance…

So, it’s up to you to see if sensation prevails over performance. On a Zuma, we’re clearly going to miss 50% of its potential without the straps.

With straps, you’ll have much more control and much less risk of getting the Foil flipping under your feet. In the waves, it’s obvious, you gain a lot with straps. You can recuperate from crazy situations just by pulling up on your feet.

Put your straps in a central position (3rd hole) for the front, and the same goes for the back strap if you still ride with the back strap.

If you want to be able to get the back foot out for transitions and surfing, put the back strap on the first hole.

How to place and adjust your straps?

Good to know:

1/ The Zuma is an easy board for foiling. You can cheat by taking a big volume but keep in mind that in SUP foiling it is still a small board that will be complicated in the chop. In wing foiling it’s totally fine because you have the wing to hold on to.

2/ The foil strongly stabilises a SUP when you are used to it. Do not compare the width of SUP boards without a foil with SUP boards with a foil. 5cm less are painless when having a foil under your board, except when there’s a strong backwash.

This reduced width is necessary to speed up these very small boards when rowing and for early take offs.

3/ When water covers the tail it stabilizes the board. Sometimes too much volume is worse than anything. This is very true in compact boards that tend to tilt over.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

 

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

 

Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Tracking of your parcels :

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

 

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

 

Reception of your Board:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

    Après avoir suivi les recommandations des gars et des filles de GONG, j’ai investi dans une planche de foil Zuma FSP 2X 6’9 SUP, j’utilise le set-up d’ailes en aluminium Allvator avec l’aile avant Rise XXL (2 500 cm). L’aile que j’ai est la Neutra V2 (6m). Pourquoi tous les plus gros éléments, eh bien je pèse environ 108 kg maintenant, alors on m’a recommandé les plus grandes tailles. Le gros foil (XXL) pour moi se comporte comme le plus petit foil (XL) pour une personne de 85kg. Idem avec l’aile. J’ai vraiment la force de bouger la plus grande aile (6m) comme si c’était une 5m. Le seul vrai bémol est l’envergure, au début j’ai fait des tests sur une planche à voile (sur plan d’eau uniquement), la plus grosse aile attrape l’eau et on finit par la renverser.

    Une fois passée à la planche que j’ai achetée, la Zuma 6’9 (140L), tout devient très facile. Je viens d’un milieu SUP. Je voulais écrire qu’il est essentiel d’avoir le bon équipement pour apprendre. Parlez aux gens de GONG, ils donnent de bons conseils sur le matos qu’il faut pour un bon apprentissage et d’avoir une bonne progression. Plus vous aurez d’expérience au début, plus vite vous apprendrez.

    À quelle vitesse?

    Eh bien, je viens de faire ma quatrième la tentative, sans cours, je peux me tenir sur le Zuma 6’9 totalement stationnaire (équilibre SUP) puis tirer le leash de l’aile et la Neutra lévite presque à côté de votre taille ! Je prends calmement l’aile, en position et c’est parti, vraiment facile à démarrer. Une fois décollé, le foil Rise XXL soulève tout l’ensemble sans pompage dans un vent de 13 nœuds. Le décollage est si doux que vous n’avez presque aucune idée que la planche s’est levée. Je le trouve très intuitif à contrôler. Atteignez une vitesse qui vous convient et diminuez la puissance de l’aile, naviguez un peu puis ramenez l’aile à la puissance. J’aime la planche quand elle est relevée, c’est comme un skateboard, donc je la pilote comme une planche et n’utilise l’aile que lorsque j’ai besoin de puissance. La planche et l’aile ont un temps de retard quand on bouge les pieds. Plus qu’un paddleboard. Je trouve qu’il est très facile de se déplacer sur la board en vol.

    L’équipement est super, les gens qui regardent sur la rive, pensez que vous plaisantez quand vous dites que c’est ma 4ème fois, du paddle board, pas d’expérience de vent ou d’expérience de foil.

    Le fait que vous puissiez réduire la puissance et si rapidement rend le sport vraiment sûr. Je suis tombé quelques fois à cause de la vitesse. Je n’ai pas encore installé les straps car je voulais de l’espace pour apprendre où mettre mes pieds. Le pad sur le pont est super adhérent même avec des chaussons.

    Pour moi, la configuration est parfaite, je la recommande à d’autres personnes de mon poids.

    La remontée au vent avec le Neutra V2 est très facile, si vous utilisez la poignée de maintien hors vol. Cela vous permet d’avancer l’aile vers l’avant et vous donne un plus grand balayage vers l’arrière pour forcer le vent, vous ressentez vraiment la puissance. Vous pouvez aussi remonter au vent très fort en vous agenouillant. Bon à savoir si vous voulez juste revenir à bon port. La Neutra 6m, même dans le vent faible, a une très bonne puissance. La puissance est délivrée de manière très douce et contrôlée, ce n’est pas saccadé ou pointu, c’est bon pour vos épaules. J’ai trouvé que pomper doucement l’aile avec le bras arrière génère vraiment une grande quantité de traction. L’aile est très stable si elle est laissée seule, la navigation en tenant la poignée du milieu dans une main très facile. Vous pouvez presque oublier le Neutra V2.

    Tout va bien pour moi, que vais-je changer ? Probablement juste le mât pour un full carbone. La planche en FSP 2X est cependant très légère, je suis impressionné. J’ai comparé la mienne à une planche de foil plus petite chez le loueur près de chez moi et j’ai trouvé que ma Zuma était plus légère bien que plus volumineuse. Avec un mât en carbone, je m’attends à ce que ma Zuma soit imbattable pendant encore quelques années.
    Happy days, j’attends avec impatience le jour 5.

    Je viens tout juste, avec regret, de me séparer de ma Zuma pour passer sur plus petit (Lemon!)

    Ayant acheté la Zuma 6’9 pour mes 98Kg, je n’ai jamais regretté mon choix. Je cherchais une planche facile, stable sans être trop lourde pour débuter, ma Zuma correspondait exactement à ce que je cherchais, et plus encore :

    Première fois sur l’eau, le bonheur. Tous les doutes se dissipent dés les premiers mètres debout : Ça va le faire, je n’ai pas investi pour rien !

    Forcément je ne vole pas directement mais ce qui est pour moi la plus grande force de la Zuma et ce qui m’a permis de décoller dés ma première session, c’est sa glisse !

    Ce n’était pas forcément quelque chose auquel j’avais fais attention au moment de faire mon choix, mais pourtant c’est bien cette glisse qui m’a permis de décoller aussi vite et d’assurer mes premiers vols dés la première session : La glisse sur l’eau est telle que la prise de vitesse au moment de la transition glisse->vol est hyper douce et prévisible.

    J’étais quand même content d’avoir également acheté un casque chez GONG : Décoller est une chose, maintenir le vol en est une autre. Mais quel pied !

    Alors oui c’est un beau morceau (en taille 6’9) mais la construction est légère et la poignée bien placée donc aucun problème de transport, en tout cas de la voiture jusqu’à la plage 😉

    Bref, une planche magique pour débuter et bien plus.
