Description

Function

New version of our kite dedicated to performance in foiling.

Introduction

The Strutless is the latest version of our strutless inflatable kite.

For years GONG has held a unique concept of extremely light fiberglass batten kites. We wanted to push this concept even further to approach the performance of foil kites, without the drawbacks of foil kites.

Our designers have reinforced the DNA of Strutless by varying the ratio according to the sizes. The small sizes have a moderate ratio to be more playful, while the large sizes are ultra slim to blast upwind. The 5m2 is an electric battery and the 19m2 is a masterpiece!

By going for these very high performances, we wanted to reinforce the stability at high speeds by adding a batten close to the tips. We gain in maneuverability, in high range, in upwind, and in relaunching. New: the ear battens are optional, it’s up to you to put them on or not, and they slip naturally through the trailing edge like on a windsurf sail.

In the event of a crash, the more rounded tips are held in the air by the new ear batten, which makes it easier to flip the wing when resting on the water. In small size, relaunching is a formality. And in large sizes, relaunching in reverse is particularly easy on the Strutless, and often the only solution at 8 knots. The Strutless behaves like a kite capable of flying forwards AND backwards by pulling more or less on the rear. We take off again with less wind and faster. A necessity in foil.

The 40% volume saved by removing the inflatable struts is a real asset when traveling. But that’s not the main argument. The real qualities are in the air. The absence of drag created by inflatable struts is really felt. You can feel the kite glide freely through the air. A unique feeling coupled with its sleek and thin shape always delivering more performance.

A lot of work has been done on the bridle with two aims: exceptional handling even in the lightest conditions, and fluid and progressive depower to improve stability at high revs.

Strutless wings are designed to be very easy to use and without the hassle: inflation in 30s, quick set-up, minimum settings, and easy take-off.

The Strutless goes faster, goes upwind better, turns better, always combining incredible comfort and a ratio of liveliness / dynamism / lightness in flight of the highest level.

Shape

Conceived and designed on Surfplan (the best 3D kite design software, used by the biggest brands, a guarantee of our seriousness), the line of the Strutless is magnificent.

Patrice Guénolé and his team of engineers are GONG employees who work with the Team all year round on the development of our kites. Unlike many brands that order kite from an independent designer, GONG kites are not a commercial variation of a model you will find at five or ten other brands. At GONG you have original kites with a real axis of development. We like the kites that glide, that fly healthily, and that fly like a real 4 lines kite. Our kites work in a maximum of conditions because what matters to us is to perform every day and in any weather.

The DNA of our kites is no different from that of GONG: pure gliding. So you won’t find any tricks or marketing plans in our kites. You have in your hands a kite of experts who know that R&D is a constant effort to improve the deep qualities of a kite down to the details.

Equipements

The integration of three sleeves on the canopy to insert fiber batten through the trailing edge, which lodge rolled into the wing bag, has several advantages:

  • Maintain profile at high speed. The leading edge does not retreat into the hollow: maximum stability therefore incredible performance.
  • The battens are very thin, which allows them to be rolled in the wing bag.
  • This set-up is very effective for the foil, freeride sessions on directional boards, by maximizing the main characteristics of these wings, a very light, fast shape that goes upwind with ease.

All of our kites come with a premium bag and repair kit. To comply with the new navigation regulations, we have integrated a plastic label on the lower surface, at the level of the ear, to enter the owner’s personal information: name, first name, telephone and address.

Construction

The Freewave is built with the most premium materials on the market : triple Ripstop T9669, skeleton in DP175LL, Bladders TPU 0,1mm

Design

  • sober, light, and elegant.
  • GONG + sizing logos on one ear.
  • Strutless logo on the opposite ear.

Shape

  • Strutless hybrid shape for maximum weight loss.
  • High aspect ratio for a maximum gliding and high performances for upwind and speed.
  • Skeleton DP175LL: leading edge and tips are manufactured with this fantastic tissue, rigid and solid, that act as a real skeleton for the Kite. Liveliness, stability, durability.
  • Segmented Leading Edge (22 segments), thin sections in the middle for maximum flow and thicker sections on the tips for better maneuverability. A super compromise between power, relaunch, maneuverability while offering excellent rigidity.
  • Recoiled hollow that accelerates kite speed: High control of the speed wind and great upwind performances.
  • Ability to de-power completely. In the middle of the window you can instantly kill the power by releasing. At the zenith the kite auto-stabilizes due to the flap created on the draft zone.
  • Rounded and flowing tips facilitating the tilting of the kite during relaunch and while handling.

Stock Dimensions

  • Standard valve: super easy to inflate/deflate at lightning speed.
  • 1 Ronstan mini pulley sliding on a Spectra bridle line: Optimum kite reactivity.
  • 3 rear tip anchor points: Gives you choice to augment the kites maneuverability and its light feeling on the bar, or you may calm down the kite and augment its feeling on the bar
  • 2 power adjustment knots on the front bridle.
  • Straps at tips of struts and leading edge that help avoid line hooking.
  • 3 sleeves for additional rigid battens.
  • Laminated label on the intrados, close to one tip, to write: last name, first name, phone and address.
  • Recommended bar : GONG KITE BAR 49 CM COMPLETE (not included in kite purchase, sold seperately).

Instructions

Innovation is at the core of our products

GONG Kite Technology

The GONG Kite Strutless is made in one of the largest Kite Factories in the world and meets the quality standards of the finest Kites in the world.
It is constructed with the greatest care. The Panels are cut by CNC and entirely assembled by hand by the best workers in the kite Industry.
The materials that we use are amongst the finest. We search for the performance for sure but also we look for endurance and for materials that are time tested.
  • Bridles made from Dyneema and Spectra with Ronstan pullys.
  • High quality triple rip-stop, Teijin T9669 (high stiffness, long lasting performances).
  • Reinforcement patches in PVC 1680D on the tips.
  • Leading Edge made with Dacron Dimension Polyan DP175LL (the most rigid on the market and also the most costly).
  • Bladders TPU 0,1mm for hardcore reliability.

A reminder, at the Kites weight – whomever the manufacturer – will vary following 3 main factors :

  • The more reinforced the Kite is with concern to material thickness, the higher the weight will be, but also the higher the resistance to crashes and also the longevity of your Kite.
  • The SPI is waterproofed by a coating process which preserves its performance in use. The thicker the coating, the heavier the fabric becomes, and also the better it ages over time session quantities. For the record, the exposure of your Kite to UV and treated water will gradually destroy this coating.
  • Our Kites are equipped with Bladders that are 100 microns thick, which is among the thickest on the market. We could easily descend to 60 microns but this would substantially diminish the Kites resistance to us : Nosedives, Kitemares, crashes, overinflation, etc…

Buying guide

For whom ?

From confirmed to pro, the Strutless is a game changer.

Its qualities cannot be found on another kite. You will like them or you will move on. If you liked it, it’s for life because it will give you so many amazing sessions !!!

What is it for?

For everything, but preferably underpowered, even if the very high ratios, well blocked by the three battens, allow for a fairly incredible high wind range in race-like up and downs: you go upwind strong and you sail downwind hard. In overpowered conditions, it’s going to be difficult.

The foil of course because who says foil says Strutless or box. You have no choice: if you want unbeatable low range, you have to have super high efficiency kites at 10 knots.

Small sizes with their compact ratio are spinning and drifting monsters. The tempo of these kites is absolutely crazy, whether in the waves or in a freestyle foil.

On a side note: the lift with a ratio close to 7 is absolutely magical. It goes up and you stay glued up there …

In surfing the Strutless is obviously unbeatable in light, and in relaxed TT it’s amazing because a super light kite changes your life.

What size ?

Depending on your level, your size, the condition of the water and what you have under your feet (foil/surf kite) the wind range will slide up or down. The Strutless range is designed as a quiver, so that you only need to go down one size when you’re overpowered or up one size if you’re underpowered, to be at the top, without asking yourself any more questions.

The constitution of a coherent Strutless range is based on wing sizes that are very close in small sizes and more distant in large sizes.

We remind you that kiting is a risky sport. Never go out in conditions that are too strong for your level / weight. Never overestimate yourself. Never practice alone. These wind ranges are for information only, but only you can decide on the day if you should go in the water or not. Please use the utmost caution. Respect the safety instructions inherent to the kite. Thank you.

What is the ideal kite ?

The Strutless for foiling.

The Unik for lightwind sessions.

The Freewave for going big.

Quiver partners ?

The Strutless covers a huge program that goes from foil to TT, through strapped or strapless surfing. So all possible boards and foils will be compatible with the design of the Strutless even if it is obviously a kite designed 95% for the foil.

When the wind is absent, a good surfboard or two will save your day. And if you can: the surf foil is almost compulsory. Your kitesurfing hours will combine with those in surfing and your level will skyrocket, as will your pleasure meter.

Which settings ?

Depending on your feeling, you will be able to give it more or less presence in the bar and more or less residual power. It’s up to you to try what suits you best.

Included equipments

  • High quality kite bag, with thick foam padding and large U shaped opening for no-hassle packing.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available ?

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

Shipping Fees:

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Any questions:

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting ?

We are passionate and professional in our job. Our only goal is to make you happy, as much as possible ?

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).

  1. bellachuck

    Hi All,
I’ve been foiling for over 5 years and initially I used my twin tip large 5 strut kites. as i got better it was clear that I needed lighter kites that could drift and also relaunch in lighter conditions. Below 15 kts 5 strut kites are not suitable. There were only a couple of single strut kites and one, no strut kite available at that time. I needed something that would relaunch in the wind that I was kiting in. The gong strutless V3 was available so I purchased a 10M given my weight and wind range I am usually on. Out of the packet it performed very well with no adjustments necessary. The most import thing was it relaunched in 10 kts. So I went ahead and purchased a V3 15 & 6M to cover the wind range from 8kts to 30kts. After 2 seasons I stretched the 10M because of user abuse to the point that it was unusable. At the upper limit of the wind speed the front of the kite would collapse and turn the kite inside out. I was using it for 200 days a year, so I was pretty happy with that. I then went to the V4 in a 9M and was very happy with it. I was able to use it in the same conditions as my V3 10m mainly because my skills were improving. The V3 6M was getting tired at this time so I purchased the 5 & 7M. by This time I was using the 15M in 7 kts and the 5M in 30 kts. My 7 and 5M are my got to kites from 14kts to 28kts. I am out nearly every day and often on 2M smaller kite size than everyone else. Some of this is attributed to the kite.
I have found a solution to the stretched kite problem on my older kites and that is to put a double strut in the center to stiffen the canopy and it eliminates the problem!
In conclusion these Kites do exactly what I want. Great relaunch, great drift and good responsiveness. You do need good kite skills though to get the best out of these kites, but I guess that goes for any kite. Happy foiling.

  10. Luidji Leroux (verified owner)

    1 ère nav aujourd’hui avec ma strutless 7 m2.
Incroyable ! Je pars en 7 quand les deux kite pose (12m2 et 9 m2)
Vent side off.

    Merci monsieur GONG ? ”

Test of the Strutless V4 19m²
First I was intimidated by the the size but it surprised me!
I tried it only once so far, light wind conditions (around 8kts) and with a twintip.
It’s just incredible to manage to kitesurf in conditions usually exclusive to kitefoiling.
Enough power to cruise around, missing 1-2kts to seriously jump but it was very enjoyable.
The large bar is really necessary to turn this kite. That said, I was surprised how quick it turns, it definitely didn’t feel as slow like I was expecting. Downlooping during transitions wasn’t a problem at all.
With wind dropping below 7kts at not a single moment I felt that kite would have dropped, incredibly stable once again for a kite of this size.
Pretty good kite to enjoy light wind conditions and if you haven’t jumped into foiling yet.
    Thumbs-up Gong ?

Strutless 13m …

Merci GONG !”

“Hello everyone, a little feedback on my Strutless V4 11m received in July that I was able to test a lot of times this summer.
    In short, it’s promises kept!
The description of the kite on the website and the advice on the forum were totally correct, and compared to my V2 12m2 there is a very appreciable margin of progress. Despite 1m2 less, I start with my foil (curve L) about as early as 6-7 knots because the kite is more manoeuvrable and turns faster at the waterstart. It allows you to do the S or the loops until it takes off, like an A380 (I use line extensions).
I tested with or without the central batten. I did not notice any noticeable difference in the ability of the kite to stay in the air in ultra-light conditions. On the other hand, there’s a better hold of the hollow with the batten, so in the end I always use this fiber batten. I also tested it with or without the ear battens. Having the battens on the ears changes everything when the wind gets stronger! It allows it to go much further before saturation, which was in my eyes the main limitation of the V2.
And overall we feel that it glides really well, less power reserve than the V2 but a speed and power that increases linearly, loops that pass smoothly, a pleasure to drive! Thanks GONG! ”

Mount the battens on the Strutless

The new Strutless is equipped with 3 fiber battens. The use of the new battens placed at each tip is optional. These enhance stability at high speeds. We gain in maneuverability, in high range, in heading, and in relaunching.

The 3 battens are introduced in their sleeve by the trailing edge like on a windsurf sail and are secured with a hook and loop strip. It’s a quick and easy routine to adopt. Just note two essential things:

  • The battens must be placed before inflating the kite, otherwise the end of the batten sleeve can not be reached.
  • If you are not sheltered from the wind to inflate, which is usually the case, unfold your kite downwind holding one of the tips. That is, one tip windward and another to leewind, with the extrados of the kite on the sand side. Place sand on the windward tip to hold the kite in place so you can mount the battens quietly.

Then you can inflate your kite as usual. In addition to a drag reduced by 40% which is completely crazy in terms of performance, all you have to do now is to inflate the leading edge ?
