Kite Elips Aramid
Program
The Elips is our ultimate kite for waves and strapless riding.
Presentation
The Elips is our high-performance wave kite for committed surfing, strapless tricks and enjoying a lively and light kite in kitefoil.
This wave kite paradoxically draws its DNA from our big air developments: we have taken the best of what is in terms of tension, surface centering, arc opening, rotation on the wingtip and profile stability, but in a 100% wave program.
The Elips 2026 gains significantly in natural glide: a more open arc, a higher aspect ratio, a shorter chord, and a more centered surface area. The result: a kite that flies cleanly in very light winds, easily generates pull in low wind conditions, and positions itself exactly where you want it in the wind window.
Particularly stable, torquey, and compact, it has impressive rotational potential. It's perfectly controllable, allowing you to have the ideal amount of power at the precise moment of your maneuver on the wave.
When you sheet out, it drifts cleanly: the kite sits in the air, slides downwind while maintaining its stability, and lets you link maneuvers without having to constantly look at it.
Powerful, it allows you to ride smaller, more responsive surfaces. Very maneuverable and predictable, the Elips is the benchmark kite for top-level surfers like Airton, Malo, Serena, and Clémence, but also for anyone who wants a modern, precise, forgiving, and incredibly enjoyable wave kite.
We've extracted the best features of a wave kite and a loop kite to design the Elips: the ultimate wave kite. Capable of being completely unobtrusive, as well as pushing a turn to the extreme, it's always in the right place at the right time to shred.
Developed and validated by the Team, it is the kite that was vice world champion in the waves.
3-strut design
Its 3-strut design offers the best compromise between rigidity and lightness, resulting in exceptional versatility. The three struts provide excellent responsiveness while maintaining profile stability for control. These qualities enhance its wind range and performance. The result is a responsive and lightweight kite that performs flawlessly in maneuvers. This is a significant advantage in waves, and the larger sizes also maintain their agility.
This balance of stability and lightness promotes the kite's overall equilibrium in all its uses, which is essential for progression. It's the kind of kite that will forgive mistakes and encourage you to try new things.
3 battens is also the best design for traveling with a kite that does everything and remains light as checked baggage.
On the Aramid version, this 3-strut base becomes even more relevant for aggressive surfing: the structure remains perfectly shaped in gusts, in windy or offshore sections, and during crashes on the lip. The profile doesn't deform, which immediately improves the kite's behaviour and therefore the quality of the surfing experience.

Hybrid C Shape
The Elips is a modern and dynamic hybrid C shape.
The enhanced projection and more open arc offer a very effective mix of tension, precision and glide.
The turning radius remains small: the kite is precise, responsive, with direct feedback. This balance between responsiveness and profile stability allows for very accurate settings, extremely clean bar feedback, and effortless micrometric control.
The Aramid improves upon the typical hybrid C behavior: the kite moves forward better, accelerates more smoothly in the wind window, and offers much more precise control at the edge of the window. This results in improved positioning, more precise transitions, and better drift in fast sections.

Short bridle
The new, smaller diameter bridles minimize drag while maintaining impeccable mechanical characteristics. The kite is noticeably more streamlined in flight.
Your Elips adapts to your feel thanks to the adjustments on the rear and front components:
- 3 rear attachment points to adjust responsiveness and bar presence according to each person's feel.
- 3 adjustments on the front bridle:
- towards the outside of the kite for more low-end power, less bar presence, a slightly wider turning radius and more stability for freestyle.
- inwards for a less powerful kite in the front lines/harness that turns faster and more depower.
- central adjustment for perfect versatility.
The new short bridle system improves feedback and the feel is much more direct. Combined with a pulley-free system, this results in a precise and fast kite.
On the Aramid version, this direct bridle benefits from a stiffer leading edge: the slightest bar input translates immediately into flight, without the structure absorbing any of the movement. It's this combination that provides such "pro" handling without making it unplayable.
This added rigidity is particularly noticeable in the waves: there's no unwanted deformation of the leading edge when the kite is sheeted out down-the-line or when it catches a gust in a hollow section. The handling remains perfectly clean, even when the rider isn't looking at the kite.

Reactive tips
Tips play a major role in the behavior of the Elips.
Square tips, more open, with a neutral but high basic twist in bar actions: hyper-sharp rotation on the wingtip, speed preserved throughout the turn.
You can rotate the kite on the spot, quickly move it out of the window or let it drift depending on the situation.
This kite offers very wide possibilities for everything related to aggressive surfing and strapless riding.
The rigidity of the Aramid structure also enhances the effectiveness of the twist: the kite reacts instantly without collapsing, even when sheeted out. The result: an even cleaner drift, more precise positioning, and smoother rotation at the top of the wave.

Moderate ratio
The new 5.0 ratio of the Elips remains in an “intermediate” zone perfectly suited to waves: high enough to offer more glide and upwind performance, but compact enough to maintain a very healthy feel.
In the low range, the Elips is amazing: it generates power from low speeds, you feel that you are well supported by the air.
This power availability, combined with the bridle which allows for instant depowering, gives remarkable control in all wave configurations (on shore, side, gusty spots, windless areas).
This higher aspect ratio fully exploits the benefits of Aramid: the kite maintains its glide ratio during rotation, moves forward better in the wind window, and offers a more effective surface area when drifting. This is what makes the Elips 2026 Team so stable in the air, even in lulls.

Easy relaunch
The highly curved leading edge makes it easy to rotate the kite on the water, positioning it on one wingtip for easy relaunch. This ability is essential to quickly get going again in the waves, for example.
The Elips also takes off easily in reverse by pulling hard on both back lines: essential to avoid trouble in waves.

Shape:
- 3-strut design : an excellent compromise between weight and stability for outstanding surfing performance, while remaining simple and easy to control. The 3 struts provide excellent responsiveness while maintaining exemplary profile stability in high winds.
- Hybrid C shape : modern, stable, predictable and dynamic design. Projection coefficient increased to 65.5% (vs 63% in 2025), with a more open arc to gain glide, upwind ability and surface area for lift.
- The ratio is now a moderate 5.0 (vs. 4.5) : more glide, more speed when desired, while maintaining a very smooth and linear feel throughout the entire wind window. With its redesigned surface area, it remains incredibly stable at the zenith, retains excellent drift, and is very forgiving of mistakes. The result is a kite that quickly exits the power zone when desired and returns to it instantly on demand. This true mobility within the wind window is ideal for surfing.
- 100% performance profile : slightly set back for excellent top speed and enhanced stability at high wind speeds. Significant draft relative to the profile's chord for solid power, yet a relatively thin draft in absolute terms thanks to the reduced chord: maintaining lightness and responsiveness. Relatively deep (compared to its narrow chord, therefore thin in absolute terms) for incredible lift and excellent recovery in loops.
- A medium-diameter leading edge ensures a fast and sleek wing in the air, allowing you to focus on surfing without battling the kite. Yet, this kite won't collapse in a crash, making emergency relaunching a breeze.
- A more open arc for a natural, well-placed glide in the airflow, smoother transitions and more efficient movement in the window, with a very healthy drift when you sheet out and let the kite go downwind during maneuvers.
- Waveriding outline with a highly curved leading edge for quick relaunch in waves. The kite can roll on the water to return to the takeoff position by gently pulling a back line.
- Centered surface : This compact kite with a centered surface generates clean and efficient support, with plenty of power available for underpowered riding. This allows you to choose a smaller, more responsive size, which is perfect for surfing, without sacrificing upwind performance, for example.
- Segmented struts : more rigid at the connection with the leading edge: very crisp handling, more power for the same surface area, more stability at the high end of wind range. The profile holds remarkably well at the high end of wind range for a 3-strut kite. More efficient relaunch.
- Square tips , more open and with a moderate surface area: they free the kite during rotation and provide tremendous maneuverability. The twist of the Elips closes the inner tip at the curve and opens the opposite one sharply for even faster turns on the wingtip. You can rotate the kite on the spot or make it go out of the wind window depending on the bar pressure, which is ideal for surfing and strapless freestyle.
- The internal twist of the wingtips is negative , but with a very effective twist thanks to the high tension applied to the entire kite: the result is a kite that twists very strongly during piloting, with an immediate bar response. The kite is quicker to exit the power zone when opening, more on/off.
- Very high spinnaker tension on each section for highly responsive handling. It reacts instantly to inputs, allowing you to place it exactly where you want it when surfing.
- Easy bar feedback : you always know where the kite is thanks to constant and controlled bar pressure. It's a kite that feels good and allows you to think about surfing rather than piloting in the window.
- Highly effective depower : you're at full power when sheeted in, with a significant depower effect when fully depowered. The kite switches to "on/off" mode whenever you want: when depowered, it drifts and stays in place without unwanted pull, which is essential in hard turns, fast sections, and barrels.
- The kite has a self-stabilizing shape with an intermediate aspect ratio , a centered surface area, and a deep draft that catches the air. The slightly set-back tips distribute the weight rearward to prevent dives and stalls. The result is a predictable and very stable kite.
- Short bridle lines prevent tangling in the tips and make the kite more responsive; attached at 6 points, without pulleys for an ultra-direct and uncompromising feel. The absence of pulleys also eliminates problems in case of a crash in the waves.
- 3 adjustments on the front bridle :
- towards the outside of the kite for more available power, less bar presence, a slightly wider turning radius and more stability for freestyle.
- towards the inside for a less powerful kite in the front lines/harness which turns faster and more depower.
- Central adjustment for perfect versatility.
- 3 rear attachment points to adjust responsiveness and bar presence according to each person's feel.
Buying guide
For whom?
Queen of waves for committed surfers, the Elips will appeal to all those who love strong turns, fast sections and strapless surfing, while remaining accessible for an already autonomous kitesurfer who wants to progress seriously in waves.
For what ?
The Elips is a kite that turns quickly and drifts very well.
With a rotation radius that can be closed at will, unparalleled stability, huge depower and real glide, it excels in surfing.
Quite powerful, it's a kite that's mostly ridden in the low end to promote maneuverability and drifting, but it remains very stable in the high end.
With the Elips, you typically choose the smallest effective size, hop on your surfboard, and enjoy a compact, lively, and precise kite.
It will also be very pleasant for strapless freestyle and kite foiling if you like to ride with an ultra-maneuverable kite.
Understanding our kite range:

Display: the freeride kite for rapid progression.
Vertigo: the high-performance 3-strut kite for all tricks, loops, big air, surfing, foiling.
Ayto: the ultimate 5-strut kite for big air and aggressive kite loops.
Unik: the lightweight single-strut freeride kite for lightwind, foiling and waves.
Strutless: the super light kite for light wind and high-performance freeriding.
Elips: the ultimate kite in the waves.
What size?
The Elips has a very stable and easy-to-control high end. But it's a kite that's best ridden in the low end, relying on its torque. Indeed, its low-end power and maneuverability work wonders in the lower end of the wind range.
Choose your kite by following our recommendations below. Wind ranges always depend on your weight, skill level, and the board under your feet!

Bar size:
The length of your bar will directly impact the overall feel of your kite. Remember that the longer your bar, the easier it will be to turn your kite. This is especially important when using larger kites, particularly in very light winds, to maintain good responsiveness. The increased leverage compensates for this natural loss of responsiveness.
Keep in mind that, conversely, the smaller the kite, the faster it will turn! Therefore, using a smaller bar allows you to balance the kite's behavior and make it more responsive. You must take these parameters into account when choosing your bar size and adapt your riding style to your preferred feel and the conditions you encounter.
- If we are looking for smooth and progressive steering, we must "undersize" the size of our bar.
- If you prefer fast and responsive steering, you should choose a larger bar.
The key size is the 52cm bar. This is the most versatile bar and the one to choose if you only want one bar for a 7-9-12, 8-11, or 8-10-13 quiver.
When you have an extensive kite quiver, it's essential to also have a quiver of bars to maintain a balanced feel when switching from a small kite to a larger one. Also note that having two bars reduces wear and tear on the parts by half!
Here are our recommendations:
Recommendations above are based on the behavior of GONG kites. Since our bars are compatible with a wide range of kites, you can adapt your choice according to the type of kite you use.
Line lengths:
Your FeelX bar comes standard with 80cm pre-lines, 19m of lines and 3m extensions already mounted.
The original setup is the most versatile and will be your best choice for 90% of your sessions.
By playing with its lengths, or even modifying them using our extensions (sold separately), you further boost its versatility!
- 22m lines:
The "standard" bar length allows for a more progressive and predictable feel (recommended setting for progressing kiters). Your wind window will be larger, thus providing more power at takeoff. This is the preferred setting for low and mid-range conditions, and for everyday freeride use.
- 19m lines:
Shorter lines offer a more direct kite response, increasing its responsiveness. The wind window will be shorter. This is the perfect setup for advanced kiters, ideal for wave riding or foiling, for added agility.
If you choose to sail with short lines, you will also gain comfort in high range.
Note that 22m and 19m are not extreme line lengths and remain a fine adjustment to your piloting feel.

Is the Elips wing accessible?
The Elips is a very maneuverable yet accessible kite thanks to its moderate aspect ratio. It allows for the most technical maneuvers, but without necessarily requiring advanced piloting skills. To reach its peak performance, you obviously need to be a top pilot. But it's not exclusive.
Is the Elips a versatile kite?
It's a kite that can do everything. With its shape inherited from that of the Ayto in big air, the Elips has that fiery side that we need in other programs such as twin tip for example, or to send moves in kitefoil.
Is the Elips easy to relaunch?
It's particularly round; you flip it over in a second and it takes off again. It's really the easiest one with the Display.
And its leading edge section is sufficient to recover after being tossed around in a wave. Ready to relaunch!
Which wave kite should I choose?
In our comprehensive range, we have various "wave" kites. Depending on your conditions and skill level, you should choose one model over another.
- Display : This freeride kite, ideal for rapid progression, is also a very enjoyable kite for wave riding thanks to its stable flight and maneuverability. A great kite for trying surfing without difficulty.
- Vertigo : this high-performance freeride kite is a true all-rounder that also performs well in the waves thanks to its maneuverability and responsiveness. Its wide wind range is also an undeniable asset for surfing, preventing you from getting caught out of the conditions.
- Ayto : 100% big air and kite loops, this kite is extreme. Pro pilot only!
- Unik : this light wind kite, ideal for kiting with a smaller power supply, is fantastic for surfing. Firstly, because it's so light you forget you're even wearing it. Secondly, because it hugs the sky, offering excellent control, so you won't be penalized for even the slightest piloting error.
- Elips : the queen of the waves, this kite has everything we love in a kite designed for surfing: maneuverability, stability, resourcefulness, drift, precision, forgiveness, incredible low range, fine control, it is the queen of the spot.
What inflation pressure?
The recommended pressure is indicated in the table below:

Several factors must be taken into account:
- An underinflated kite will be unstable and difficult to control in gusty winds. Relaunching will also be more complicated with a kite that doesn't hold its shape.
- An overinflated kite will increase the risk of explosion during a crash and will cause the seams and materials of your kite to wear out more quickly.
- If you keep your kite inflated in the sun for a long period, we recommend deflating it slightly to reduce the risk of seam fatigue.
Kite with or without pulleys?
The Elips is a pro kite designed for waves. Its pulley-free bridle gives it a hyper-responsive and direct feel, ideal for surfing.
We opted for a short bridle without pulleys. This type of bridle is both the lightest and the strongest. It reduces drag for an even more responsive kite. And it makes relaunching easier by minimizing the risk of jamming.
Bar compatibility?
The Elips was developed to work with the FeelX bar. Our bar has 4 lines of the same length and a low V at the front.
The attachments for the lines at the bridle level are:
- Kite-side loops for the front lines
- Kite-side knots for the back lines
How do I maintain my kiteboarding equipment?
To increase the lifespan of your equipment, how you use it and its regular maintenance will be very important.
A key point when using your kite: do not leave it inflated for long periods of time without use! The flapping of the fabric in the wind can cause premature wear of the materials, as can prolonged exposure to UV rays.
Frequent rinsing of your kite under running water is also discouraged. The chlorine in tap water can damage the surface treatments of your kite. Instead, you should store your kite dry and remove any excess sand.
Always rinse your tiller with clean water to remove sand and salt. Remember to also open the safety release to rinse the inside. Let it dry before reassembling it.
If the slat or leading edge is punctured, use your repair kit, or consult our spare parts to order the replacement part.
Regularly inspect the condition of your kite. Look for any holes or cuts and have them repaired before they get worse.
If you have damaged your kite due to misuse, you can have it repaired directly at the GONG workshop by contacting our sailmaker .
More information on how to maintain your kite can be found on the forum .
