NEWS: THE RIGHT BOARD FOR YOUR (CURRENT) LEVEL

Choosing a wing foiling board is done according to its program, your weight and your level. One would think it’s pretty straightforward. You only need to decide on a program and to step on a scale to face the truth about your weight. But what about your level ? Well, estimating if you have the required level for your next board seems like a gamble for a lot of wingfoilers. Especially as your level is changing, hopefully much faster than your weight 😉

So here are some valuable tips that find their source in the hundreds of messages that are sent to our technical advisers every week on this very topic.

First, remember that the goal when riding a wing foil is to have fun ! Avoid unnecessary difficulties due to unsuited gear. Whether you are a complete beginner, an intermediate rider looking to spice things up with new gear or a pro, we offer a board perfectly suited to your level. If our range is wide, it is because every profile is very specific. To begin with, use our buying guide to find the board that’s right for you.

Second, we recommend that you choose a board for the level you have, not the level you will have. Take your time on a board that will allow you to progress fully and comfortably. So you will be a better wingfoiler when the day comes to switch to a more technical model. The transition will then happen naturally.
Wing foilers: Elise and FX, GONG Staff with the Zuma and Lance WOOD 2X.

The evolution in wing foiling goes step by step.

First time sailing in control, first successful transition, first flights and the list of first times goes on and on. These are objective pointers that allow you to estimate your level quite easily. If you fly without a problem, in a wide spectrum of conditions and if the first transitions do not represent major difficulties, you can orient yourself towards boards with volumes of your weight plus 15 (for example a Lemon FSP Pro of 95L if you weigh 80 kg).

If you are a complete beginner, a comfortable board like the Lance, Zuma or HIPE in a large size is essential. If you are at the stage where sensations necessarily imply more performance, go for the most radical boards in the range but still within the range defined by our buying guide which depends on your size. Deviating from this guide will deprive you of part of the board’s range. No problem if you want a second board to boost your sensations. On the other hand, if this is your only board, you might regret it.

If the steps follow one another faster than expected, Note that the tight prices charged at GONG also helps your evolution. GONG boards are easily resold and with very little loss. This is an opportunity for wingfoilers who want to evolve and beginners who want to start at very low prices. One more reason to buy the board that fits your current level.
