Program

The Vertigo is our performance kite with twin tip DNA and total versatility. No need to choose between power, precision, hangtime, responsiveness or drift: this kite has it all.

Presentation

The Vertigo boosts all programs. Designed for twin tips, it has the glide and maneuverability that we love in many aspects of kiteboarding.

This 3-strut kite, both rigid, lightweight, and reactive, is particularly smooth. Its handling is gentle and fast thanks to its shape that really glides. You don't feel any resistance, it's super pleasant.

Nevertheless, it provides the necessary power for a twin tip, namely for boosting. The bar feedback is clear, and the actions are direct for the most radical moves.

Transitioning from a twintip to a surfboard, from a foil session to sending jumps, unhooking easily—this is all that Vertigo offers.

Its dominant freestyle DNA opens up many possibilities, especially when unhooked. You have power on demand, without ever feeling like your arms are getting ripped off. And it relaunches easily.

This freestyle kite is capable of everything!!!

Shape
3 STRUT DESIGN

Its 3-strut design represents the best compromise between rigidity and lightness, offering tremendous versatility. The 3 struts provide excellent responsiveness while maintaining profile stability for control. These qualities enhance its range of use and performance. You have a reactive and lightweight kite that responds perfectly in maneuvers. A significant advantage in waves but also in larger sizes that remain agile.

This balance of stability and lightness promotes the overall equilibrium of the kite in all its uses, which is essential for progression. It's typically the kite that smooths out errors and encourages trying new things.

3 struts also make it the best design for traveling with a kite that does it all while remaining light in luggage.

HYBRID C SHAPE

The Vertigo is a hybrid C shape: a modern and dynamic design that maximizes performance while remaining simple and lightweight.

Its turning radius is reduced, making the kite precise and lively to enhance the feeling and performance. This balance between agility and profile stability allows for very clean original settings, resulting in an incredibly smooth bar return for effortless, micrometer-precise control. The direct feeling remains, allowing you to connect seamlessly with the kite.

SHORT BRIDLE WITH 3 PULLEYS

The new reduced diameter bridles minimize drag while maintaining impeccable mechanical characteristics. The kite flies much smoother.

Your Vertigo adapts to your preference thanks to adjustments on both the rear and front bridles:

  • 3 attachment points on the rear bridles to adjust responsiveness and bar presence according to individual preference.
  • 3 adjustments on the front bridle:

- Outward for more bottom-end power, less bar presence, a slightly wider turning radius, and more stability for freestyle.

- Inward for a kite with less power in the front/harness that turns faster and has more depower.

- Central adjustment for perfect versatility.

The new short bridle system enhances feedback, and the feeling is much more direct. Everything becomes more intuitive to synchronize with your kite.

The 3 pulleys enable crisp turns that lighten steering, enhancing performance across all criteria such as maneuverability and depower, for instance. This allows the kite to remain powerful, with the profile maintained, while enabling strong sheeting at any time.

FAST TIPS

The tips play a major role in your kite's behavior. By combining perfectly distributed tension and precisely calculated tip twist, we've provided the Vertigo with great responsiveness while maintaining maximum control.

The specificity of the Vertigo lies in having relatively large-surface tips with almost no internal twist. This results in maneuverability that relies more on surface area than on ear closure, allowing the kite to maintain a lot of speed in the turn.

MODERATE RATIO

The Vertigo's moderate ratio provides a very smooth feeling that will allow you to perform in all disciplines and situations.

With this compact kite, we have the best balance between bottom-end power and docility.

The kite's power kicks in even at low speeds, giving a solid sensation of being supported by the air. The feedback is direct, making it easy to find your groove. This linearity in the kite's power is combined with a bridling system that allows for instant depowering. Everything is under control.

The Vertigo is designed to make you feel confident and ready to push your limits.

EASY RELAUNCH

The highly curved leading edge facilitates the kite's rotation on the water to position it on one ear for easy relaunch. This ability is essential during progression and truly enjoyable afterward for sending it hard without hesitation.

3D View

Durable Construction.

The Elips is built with the best materials available for a kite, using Dacron.

Our decades-long experience in kite making, along with all the advancements made in wing technology, have enabled us to push the performance of our kites to unprecedented levels.

  • Easy bar feedback: You always know where your kite is through constant and measured bar pressure.
  • Significant depower for a wide range of use and a reassuring kite. It provides full power when sheeted in and significant depower when sheeted out. Large depower range for added reassurance.
  • "Self-stabilizing" shape with its moderate aspect ratio, reflex profile, and significant camber that "grabs" the air. Rearward-shifted tips to distribute the mass slightly toward the rear of the kite to prevent pitching/stalling. It's a predictable and stable kite for maximum safety.
  • Short front bridle to prevent tangling in the tips and make the kite more responsive; attached on 4 points, with 3 friction ring pulleys for more depower and a more consistent behavior in all flight aspects.
  • 3 adjustments on the front bridle:
    • Outward for more bottom-end power, less bar pressure, a slightly wider turning radius, and more stability for freestyle.
    • Inward for a less powerful kite in the front lines/harness that turns faster and has more depower.
    • Central adjustment for perfect versatility.
  • 3 attachment points for the rear bridle to adjust reactivity and bar pressure according to individual preference.

Buying guide

For whom?

Clearly the kite of a skilled twin-tip rider who wants a kite capable of excelling in all programs.

What for?

The Vertigo is primarily a twin-tip kite, offering the perfect power and remarkable maneuverability. Perfect for jumps and tricks.
Its flying principle is to be "unbraked." So, it's a kite that glides perfectly. Ideal recipe for unhooked riding, for example.
But it's also what makes it great for surfing. It positions itself easily wherever you want in the window, it drifts, it turns.
In summary, it's the 3-strut twin-tip kite that also knows how to do everything else.

Understanding our kite range:

Display : the freeride kite for rapid progression.

Vertigo : high-performance kite for all disciplines from unhooked to surfing.

Ayto : the ultimate 5-strut kite for big air and kite loops.

Unik : lightweight mono-strut freeride kite for light wind, foiling, and waves.

Strutless : super light kite for light wind and freeride/freerace.

Strutless Revo : ultra-light and maneuverable kite for foiling and surfing.

Elips : the ultimate kite for waves.

What size?

The Vertigo has power and moves really well. A skilled rider will easily exploit the low wind range. And with its 3-pulley bridles and "open" tips, you'll have a really important and enjoyable high wind range.

Choose your kite according to our recommendations below. Wind ranges always depend on your weight, skill level, and the type of board you're using!

Bar Size:

The choice of your bar size will have a direct impact on the overall feel of your kite. Remember that the longer your bar, the easier it will be to turn your kite. This detail is important when using larger kites, especially in very light winds, to maintain good responsiveness. The longer leverage compensates for this natural loss of responsiveness.

On the contrary, the smaller the kite, the faster it will turn! So, using a smaller bar allows you to balance behaviors and calm down kite reactions. Therefore, consider these factors when choosing the size of your bar and adjust the control to the feeling you like and the conditions you encounter.

  • If you prefer smooth and gradual control, you should "undersize" your bar.
  • If you prefer fast and responsive control, you should choose a larger bar.

The key size is the 52cm bar. It is the most versatile bar to choose if you want to have only one bar for a quiver of 7-9-12 or 8-11 or even 8-10-13.

When you are equipped with an extended kite quiver, it's best to also have a range of bar sizes to maintain a balanced feel when switching from a small kite to a larger one. Also, note that having two bars reduces wear on parts by half!

Here are our recommendations:

The above recommendations are based on the behavior of GONG kites. Since our bars are compatible with a wide range of kites, you can adapt your choice based on the type of kite used.

Line Length:

Your Feel-X bar comes standard with 80cm front lines, 19m of lines, and 3m extensions already mounted. The original setup is the most versatile and will be your best choice for 90% of your sessions.

One of the main advantages of the Feel-X bar is its great tolerance provided by its shape. By playing with its lengths, or even modifying them with our extensions (sold separately), you further enhance its versatility!

  • 22m Lines:
The "standard" length provides a more progressive and predictable bar feeling (recommended setting for progressing kiters). Your flight window will be larger, offering more power at takeoff. This is the setting to favor in light to medium wind conditions, and for everyday freeride use.
  • 19m Lines:
Shorter lines offer a more direct response from the kite, increasing its reactivity. The flight window will be shorter. This is the perfect setting for advanced kiters, especially for wave riding or foil for more agility. If you choose to ride with shorter lines, you will also gain comfort in high wind conditions.

Note that 22m and 19m are not extreme line lengths and remain a fine adjustment to your piloting sensation.

Frequent questions
Is the Vertigo a beginner-friendly kite?
The Vertigo is a dynamic kite capable of the highest level of performance. It's a kite that requires experience to be piloted well. However, its open tips and smooth glide in the air make it docile and forgiving of mistakes.
Is the Vertigo a versatile kite?
Absolutely! The Vertigo is the ultimate all-around kite, capable of performing well in every aspect of kiteboarding.
Which freeride kite to choose?
In our comprehensive range, we offer different "freeride" kites. Depending on your conditions and skill level, you should lean towards one model over another. - Display: The ultimate freeride kite, it's the most versatile model regardless of the level and conditions encountered! With good low-end power and a stable 3-strut design for strong winds, the Display has a very wide range of use, always with exceptional ease of use! It offers intuitive freeriding, no matter the wind strength. - Vertigo: Freeriding in high-performance mode! Like the Display and Unik, the Vertigo allows you to have a blast on any terrain. However, this kite, with its precise handling and constant power, is best suited for experienced kiters. The Vertigo is fast, reacts quickly, and provides an impressive boost in jumps. It's freeriding at a high-octane level! - Unik: While also a freeride kite, the Unik is developed to facilitate navigation in light or underpowered winds. Its single-strut design offers impressive lightness and great stability across the wind window. You'll feel safe even in winds as low as 10 knots. If you frequently ride in lightly windy spots and enjoy switching between twin-tip, surfboard, and foil, this model will be perfect for you!
What inflation pressure?
You need to consider certain elements: An underinflated kite will be unstable and difficult to control in gusty winds. Relaunching will also be more complicated with a kite that doesn't maintain its shape. An overinflated kite increases the risk of explosion during a crash and will fatigue the seams and materials of your kite more quickly. If you leave your kite inflated in the sun for a long period, we recommend slightly deflating it to reduce the risk of seam fatigue.
Kite with or without pulleys?
The Vertigo is a kite designed for 100% performance. With its 3-pulley ring friction bridle, we expand its areas of excellence by providing more pivot and depower. We have chosen to work with a short bridle, featuring three pulley ring frictions on each side. This type of short bridle, with a wide range of motion, offers significant control in high wind conditions while maintaining remarkable maneuverability.
Compatibility of bars?
The Vertigo has been developed to work with the FeelX bar. Our bar features 4 lines of equal lengths and a low V at the front. The attachments for the lines at the bridle level are as follows: - Kite-side loops for the front lines - Kite-side knots for the back lines
How to maintain my kite equipment?
To increase the longevity of your kite equipment, the way you use it and its regular maintenance are crucial. A key point during usage is not to leave your kite inflated for long periods without use! Flapping of the fabric in the wind can cause premature wear of the materials, as can prolonged exposure to UV rays. Frequent rinsing of your kite with running water is also not recommended. The chlorine present in tap water can alter the surface treatments of your kite. However, it is advisable to store your kite dry and remove any excess sand. Always rinse your bar with clean water to remove sand and salt. Also, remember to open the safety release mechanism to rinse its interior. Let it dry before reassembling. In case of a pierced strut or leading edge, use your repair kit, or check our spare parts to order the replacement piece. Systematically inspect the condition of your kite. Identify any holes or tears and have them repaired before they worsen. If you have damaged your kite due to improper use, you can have it repaired directly at the GONG workshop by contacting our sail loft: [link]. For more information on how to maintain your kite, visit the Forum.
