TECH HIGHLIGHT: RECESSED DECKS ON THE 2026 WING BOARDS!

The stunning effect of reduced thickness on the feeling and control of your foil!

Flying over water with a foil is a subtle exercise that requires perfect harmony between the rider, their gear, and the liquid element supporting them. The foil’s feedback must be as clear and direct as possible. That’s the number-one quality of a wing foil setup: perfect rigidity and a connection that transmits every input precisely. This challenge drives the development of our wing boards, with optimized thicknesses ensuring that direct connection while maintaining glide and buoyancy for the rider.

The 2026 recessed decks contribute beautifully to this goal, with a few bonus advantages! Let’s break it down 👇

Wing foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, on Lemon FSP Pro, Neutra Boom (Perf Series), HM85 mast, Fluid front wing, and Ypra Surf-Freestyle stabilizer.

Why choose a recessed deck?

The thickness of your board comes from how the volume is distributed to allow you to float and take off. Once you’re flying, that volume becomes unnecessary. The advantage of a recessed deck is that it brings the rider physically closer to the foil while maintaining volume.

By reducing the thickness under your feet, the connection with the foil becomes much more direct, optimizing responsiveness and precision in every move.

Lowering the center of gravity also enhances the board’s stability and gives you exceptional control, even in tough conditions.

“By redistributing volume toward the nose and rails, the recessed deck makes the board so much more stable. It’s a huge advantage for making your freestyle tricks stick. You gain control and, ultimately, confidence, which is the key to progress.”
Benjamin Castenskiold, 2025 Surf-Freestyle World Champ.

Pure bliss for strapless wing foilers!

The recessed deck represents a move toward greater control and feel, especially in strapless riding, where your positioning becomes more instinctive. It provides very direct feedback from the foil, a lowered center of gravity, a wide range of stance offsets, and a raised edge around the pad, offering a clear tactile reference for perfect foot placement.
