Rising with the Sirus

Leaving the water’s surface is the first challenge for a foiler, and it’s a big one when conditions are marginal. This giant wingspan shape allows you to rise above the water and comfortably maintain flight at will. Its profile delivers instant lift and its sleek shape provides a glide that allows perfect control during flight. On the Sirus XXXL and 5XL, the flight stretches far because you feel carried by these flawless wings. Stalling is unknown. A Sirus of these dimensions lands when you decide it to.

Sleek yet maneuverable shape

A shape with a very high aspect ratio (15 for the 3XL and 20 for the 5XL) mechanically implies reduced maneuverability. While it’s true that your turning radius increases with wings of these dimensions, two qualities of the Sirus come to temper this idea:

The outline of the Sirus is paradoxically designed to maximize its rail-to-rail to not penalize its control and maneuverability given its giant wingspan. The leading edge is rounded like that of a Fluid, and the trailing edge is an inverted omega. This allows for a distribution of the outline surface. Now lift is very centered in the wing, with a longer chord length in the center. Paired with very thin tips that allow gliding far without locking the rail-to-rail of this front wing, and a load-bearing core and mobile tips, the whole setup gives a maneuverability that is entirely manageable and therefore impressive for a wing of this dimension.
A construction of total rigidity where nothing bends, so all your intentions can be fully put into action. There are no parasitic movements or latencies: it’s quick and responsive.

These foils with the highest ratios contain a large number of high modulus carbon layers. This carbon is 4 to 6 times more expensive than top of the range Prepreg. It provides the essential mechanical rigidity to produce the proper functioning of these very thin and large foils.

The mast and fuselage for giant front wings

The use of wings with very large wingspans calls for the use of masts capable of responding to the enormous mechanical stresses that they produce. For these giant wings, specific shapes of our HM masts have been developed. These are the masts 72HM, 79HM and 86HM. Their use is strongly recommended to extract the full potential of these front wings which are magic in small conditions. As is the use of the Titanium Pro fuselage which is an insurance of durability for the important constraints associated with this type of front wing, in particular when pumping.

In Pumping

In flat start, takeoff and the energy needed to take off largely dictate your flight efficiency. Oversizing your front wing therefore makes perfect sense, especially since the wingspan helps you glide and recover.
In dock start, takeoff is no longer a key factor, it is the glide that makes the difference. The glide of the 3XL and 5XL is phenomenal, but it’s especially that the larger you go, the more latitude you have to rest. You have time to analyze all your movements, correct flaws, breathe, and project towards the set goal. A Sirus allows you to go very far without immediately tapping into your reserves. You can then look towards the horizon and dare ambitious goals with serenity.

In wing foiling

The Sirus 3XL will seek the beach where the wind is imperceptible. We are at the border of the impossible. A true challenge to the laws of nature. However, it will be somewhat limiting in terms of maneuverability during your session. For a wing session in light conditions, it is better to turn to the Sirus L, XL, or even XXL for larger riders. You can also opt for the Fluid H and Curve H in the larger sizes.
