Comparison between the versatile mid-length board and the spectacular low-end performer in our inflatable range!

Mid-length boards with narrow and elongated shapes are a game-changer in wing foiling, not only in light wind conditions but also due to their tolerance for touchdowns. Their streamlined lines create significantly less water drag compared to compact shapes. This is a major advantage when riding, whether making engaged turns in free-fly or pushing the limits in freerace sessions.

In GONG’s inflatable range, two standout models deliver this signature mid-length glide: the HIPE Diamond and the HIPE Cruzader.

Comparing the Outlines

When analyzing the outlines of these two glide-oriented shapes, subtle yet essential differences emerge. The HIPE Diamond has a moderately elongated mid-length outline, striking a great balance between speed and stability. Its slightly stretched shape maintains comfort for off the foil phases and touchdowns.

In contrast, the HIPE Cruzader has an extremely streamlined shape, offering unmatched glide that allows riders to pick up speed and take off in just a few knots of wind. While the Cruzader’s early takeoffs are impressive, the Diamond also excels, quickly launching onto the foil with just a couple of pumps. Simply put, the Diamond is a valuable asset in tricky wind conditions, while the Cruzader is pure magic.

HIPE Cruzader or HIPE Diamond?

The HIPE Cruzader is an excellent choice for those looking for a board that can exploit even the slightest breeze. Its ability to generate speed and take off quickly makes it a deadly weapon in light wind conditions.

The additional length is barely noticeable, as the centered stance on this mid-length board gives the impression of riding a compact board.

  • If you don’t practice freestyle, the HIPE Cruzader can easily be your one-board quiver, as long as the volume is adapted to your weight.
  • If you're looking for a dedicated light-wind board or a secondary board for light summer conditions, we recommend choosing a generous volume. The higher you float on the water, the earlier you take off.

On the other hand, the HIPE Diamond stands out for its versatility: excellent in freeride, downwind, and even surf, it remains highly forgiving and stable, making it less technical and accessible to a broader range of riders.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Choose?

  • If your priority is maximum performance in light wind conditions and glide is your main focus, go for the HIPE Cruzader.
  • If you're looking for a versatile, comfortable board that covers a wide range of riding styles and conditions while maintaining excellent glide, the HIPE Diamond is the better choice for you.
