In our humble opinion:

1/ Listen to those who know

Talk to passionate people who know the wing at their fingertips for quality advice.

How to recognize a charlatan? Look at his Facebook page, his Instagram account, you will quickly see if he is a connoisseur or a simple carrot seller… It is not enough to have ridden three times in front of a photographer to know the Wing, and even less to be able to design and manufacture them.

Beware, it is not just a question of asking advice from world champions! It is simply a matter of finding a someone capable of understanding your needs and finding the perfect solution for you, not for him!!!

  • GONG is one of the pioneers of Wing in the world and main promoter of this passion.
  • GONG has ambassadors on many beaches who will be happy to share their experiences.
  • GONG gathers the largest community of practitioners on its brand forum. Ask us all your questions.

2/ Avoid fake brands and commercial speeches

  • You will find dozens of fake promotions, fake brands promising the deal of the century and crazy performances, but few are worth it.
  • False technical jargon should scare you away. So even if you don’t know anything about it, beware of impeccable packaging with phony speech. In 90% of the cases, it’s an office guy selling products without even knowing what they’re for.
  • There are only four serious wing factories, all located in Asia. Even they try to dilute their risks by multiplying their number of customers, even if it means producing 50 wings for a stranger as long as he pays in advance. What happens afterwards is none of their business…
  • Add to that a good dose of phony factories that coarsely copy. And sprinkle a nice layer of Westerners looking for an easy business for a few years…
  • This is what makes the least informed consumers easy prey.
  • With them, the “exceptional” pre-discount price has never been practiced. The equipment is not really in stock. The delivery is announced under 24 hours but in reality, it will take months. The material is great but, actually, it’s just a copy of the good ones with a touch of “geo finds everything”. It’s simply a fake promotion. It’s a scam…

What about advice? Quality? Professional service?

At GONG, we are 100% creators of our equipment. We have the entire staff in-house. It is not an Asian who draws our foils. And you will only see products in promotion when it’s an – end-of-series, or second choice. These products have a history you can count on. Everything is in stock. Nothing is produced to make a fake promotion.

3/ Listen to the real shapers/designers

Many shapers/designers do quality work on the wing. Unfortunately, some “brands” play the sorcerer’s apprentice at the expense of guinea pig customers.

A nice decor, attractive ads, and you end up with a chocolate croissant instead of a specialist shaper.

How is this possible? Suppose you don’t know anything about it, but you’ve sniffed out the right business. You buy a shape/design “copy to the billhook” from an Asian manufacturer who has never practiced surfing. Then you find a bumpkin who will make you three pictures in the water and hop: you’ve just set up an international scam!!!

It’s such a banal reality… One of our factories produces 40 brands. Among these 40 brands, GONG was for a long time the only one to give the fins’ positions on its shapes. For the 39 others it was copy-paste. Convenient for them but really not professional. And the worst thing is that GONG looked like a pain in the ass!!!

Everybody knows how to make a board and a wing to stand up and fly. But if you want more, there are real specialists, people with a shape and wing culture.

4/ Buy sustainable

A wing is very expensive to produce and therefore very expensive to buy. You have to take your time, look for information and only invest in a product truly suited to your needs. We believe we should consume differently with future generations in mind.

In our opinion, a good product is sustainable, solid, great to use, versatile and tolerant, at the top of performance but without complications and without fashion effects. We also believe that a good product is an economical product because most of the pollution generated by our industry lies in the waste of energy used to raise the money needed to buy these products.

The more expensive a product is, the more you have to work hard and pollute to get it. Think about it and buy online, you will save 50%.

In conclusion

We therefore advise you to talk to those who are able to show you their products in action. They know how to speak without approximations and how to answer your questions accurately with precision and simplicity without ever telling you stories. Their products are finished with harmonious lines. Their ranges offer a logic that reflects the practice and responds to needs while respecting the surf culture. And they don’t have to make you believe in crazy promotion to convince you ?

The GONG Staff is at your disposal in the Contact section at the bottom of each page to answer all your questions.

Points clefs :
