Program

Description

Program

The hybrid shape which perfectly combines paddling comfort, speed and responsiveness.

Presentation

The Vibe meets a very simple need: why have to choose between the performance of your shortboard and your groveler board when the conditions are average?

The Vibe simply follows this trend of putting more glide into performance boards. This hybrid shape is a subtle blend of shortboard and the famous “summer board”. The Vibe will produce ultra dynamic, very fast and above all totally unbridled surfing. We obtain a playful and radicalizable board that combines pleasure and performance.

The balance of this shape lies in the association of three elements. An advanced max width which ensures paddling comfort. A widened outline that offers a larger contact surface for a very strong capacity to generate speed. And finally a swallow tail which guarantees stability and optimal control on critical sections.

The Vibe completely emancipates itself from usual patterns by offering a liberating experience that perfectly combines versatility and a very high level of performance.

EPS Surf Technology

  • High-end materials: EPS blank, Epoxy resin, fiberglass. Materials chosen for their suitability to the requirements of our specifications.
  • 100% Epoxy resin board on EPS foam blanks of 28kg/m³ (with 3mm wooden stringer).
  • Deck detail: 2 layers of 6oz fiberglass, 1 layer of 4oz fiberglass.
  • Detail of the hull: 1 layer of 6oz fiberglass, 1 layer of 4oz fiberglass, plus 1 patch of 4oz fiberglass reinforcement covering the tail and fin boxes.
  • Preshape with digital control, shape control using traditional templates, 100% hand finishing.
  • Matte finish for better glide, less susceptibility to scratches and a comp look.
  • This technology is easily repairable in the event of a ding, and has an excellent strength/nervousness/weight ratio highlighting all the technical qualities of the shape.
  • It is THE modern technology, in fiberglass or carbon, currently popular with the most technical surfers looking for the best performance.
  • These boards are 100% shaped and glassed in our factory in Asia which strictly replicates our methods developed and tested in our workshop in France.

Technical sheet

Surf Vibe EPS - 5'8 Second Hand 12785 5'8

Shape

Buying guide

For whom?

Whatever the level of the surfer, the objective is to have a board that performs in as many conditions as possible, a do-it-all board to suit the conditions of the day.

A shortboarder will choose the Vibe for its comfort, but without sacrificing carving and pivoting capabilities, to maintain vertical surfing, while having a much more efficient board in summer conditions.

An intermediate level surfer will find a board that is easy to use, very versatile, and will help them progress in all registers.

A beginner can use it by “oversizing” it.

A longboarder who wants to try a shorter board in the easy, do-it-all mid-length style will love it.

For what?

The solution to no longer asking yourself the eternal question of which board to choose before the session is quite simple. On the one hand, we have the advanced surface of this shape which gives lift to the nose, this translates into paddling comfort and a very strong capacity to easily get through slower sections. And on the other, a pinched tail associated with the simultaneous action of the speed of a perf board, the pivot and the maneuverability of the truster.

The range of use is so vast that the Vibe is the travel board of choice.

What size?

Generously sized but without excessive volume, the Vibe can be surfed short, 3 or 4” shorter than a performance shortboard. You can also increase the volume to gain comfort, but while maintaining maneuverability and lightness on the rear foot. Available in 6 sizes ranging from 5’8 to 7’6, to cover all levels, sizes and programs. The small sizes will easily replace a shortboard, the larger sizes from 6'8 can serve as a transition board, these are also dimensions that classify them in the mid-length category and all the glide that goes with it.

The ideal waves for the board?

  • Size: from thigh high to head high waves and more.
  • Power: efficient in all types of waves.
  • Appearance: it can handle it all but prefers smooth faces.

What technology?

We offer different technologies on certain shapes to meet the program, conditions, and sometimes individual habits.

In the case of a PU board, there will be a different behavior from an EPS board of the same shape and weight. It’s the weight distribution in the board that generates a big difference in feeling. For two blanks with the same shape, one in PU and the other in EPS, the EPS blank will be lighter, as EPS foam is less dense.

In the case of a PU board, it’s the blank that provides solidity and concentrates weight in its core. The board thus has a very “central” inertia. This makes for a very smooth board, which forgives errors but is less dynamic. The PU blank will be heavier than the EPS blank.

In the case of an Epoxy board, the blank is very light, and solidity comes from the skins. So the inertia is “peripheral,” meaning the weight of the board is on the outside, making it more mobile, agile, and dynamic.

The best comparison to explain these differences would be to say that the inertia of PU naturally gives a single fin feeling (very centered, smooth and soft pressure), while EPS gives a thruster or even quad feeling (very external support, immediate rail to rail, maximum nervousness).

EPS is generally preferred for boards that need dynamism, usually in small to medium conditions, schematically in waves where speed generation is required. EPS is therefore preferred on shapes where reactivity is sought, as it’s easier to turn quickly, perfect for waves that require rapid transitions. For very good surfers, this further enhances the dynamism of their surfing. For progressing surfers, EPS adds this little boost of dynamism as the board can gain speed much more easily, an important point considering that in surfing, speed is the key to everything. PU is favored for high-performance shortboards, for boards where controlling speed is the main objective.

Different feelings : Surfers accustomed to PU will generally say that “EPS bounces and feels stiff.” While surfers used to EPS will say that “PU feels soft, lacks response, and struggles to accelerate.” These feelings often stem from habits, sometimes generalities, and often prejudices. Don’t hesitate to deviate from conventional wisdom to make your choice.

Which set of fins?

The traditional tri-fin set-up ensures maximum versatility and performance in a very “traditional shortboard” approach. On short waves, choose fins with little rake to increase the pivot and thus be able to turn on the spot. On consistent break points, you can increase this rake to gain drive and work on maneuvers and strong turns with more amplitude.

But you can also test a twin set-up for a loose feel and totally unbridled maneuverability. And to maintain the glide and maneuverability of the twin, but adding more control, the twin + trailer set-up is currently the perfect compromise between the advantages of the thruster and the feeling of the twin. The presence of the trailer allows you to maintain the glide of the twin, to add stability, and to be able to carve with complete confidence. Certainly the most efficient setup in small waves thanks to the speed it delivers.

There are a multitude of possible options, each allowing you to reveal a specific character that you will love.

Which shape to choose?

The Vibe does not have much equivalence, we could compare it both to many shortboards, but also to many alternative shapes.

Vibe or Fork?

The Fork is much closer to a fish, its rocker is very low, which allows it to generate a lot of speed. The Vibe has a more pronounced rocker. These two boards are equipped with a swallow, the much wider one of the Fork is there to increase its lift and speed on flat sections. That of the Vibe is much more contained in surface area, it is designed to provide control in hollow sections. Very clear advantage to the Fork in conditions that lack power and small conditions. The Vibe goes everywhere but will not be as effective in small conditions.

Vibe or Indra?

These are two versatile shapes, but with two different styles. The Indra is a pure mid-length with a rounder approach in carves, where the Vibe will have a more aggressive behavior, and an ability to produce more pronounced vertical surfing. We will choose the Indra for its ability to glide effortlessly, we will choose the Vibe for its shortboard approach. The tail of the Vibe is shaped with performance and maneuverability in mind, it will be less supportive than that of the Indra, thus giving the latter the advantage in small conditions.
