The world’s freestyle elite got straight into action on the very first day of competition!

Wing foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, with his Droid Aramid X.

The wind picked up as promised in Tarifa, allowing rounds 1 to 3 of the Surf-Freestyle competition to be completed.

In the first round, we saw our new team rider Benjamin Castenskiold, who immediately shook off the pressure of a debut with a new team by landing a 9-point combo, the highest score of the day! In the following round, Malo, 2022 World Champion, followed closely behind with an 8.87 for a double palau, the second-best overall score of the day. He qualified directly for round 5.

Still in round 3, Bastien, Benjamin, and Clément put in solid heats but missed direct qualification by just fractions of a point. Chris McDonald, the championship leader, also finds himself in the same position and will need to bounce back in round 4 to maintain his overall standing.

The rest of the competition is expected to continue this afternoon. The draw is well balanced, as our three R4 team riders are each placed in a different heat!
