Bastien Escofet dominates the Martinique Wingfoil Adventure
GONG Team rider Bastien Escofet has just wrapped up an impressive week at the Martinique Wingfoil Adventure, a unique 7-day raid-style event around the island. Mixing long-distance racing with exploration, the competition brought riders along the Atlantic coast of Martinique for a total of 427 km of racing, and Bastien made it count, winning every single race of the event.

A week of adventure racing
The event started and finished in the bay of Le Robert, where shorter long-distance races were organized alongside local Martinique kids, creating a special atmosphere to kick off and close the competition.
From there, the event turned into a true wingfoil raid, with multiple stages linking different parts of the island along the windward Atlantic coastline.
Day 2 immediately set the tone with a spectacular stage from Le Robert to Grand Rivière. After a technical upwind exit through heavy seaweed and a 7 km reach toward La Caravelle, riders launched into a massive downwind run toward the northern tip of the island. Bastien quickly broke away and rode solo for most of the downwind, covering 68 km in just 1h29 and finishing 18 minutes ahead of the rest of the fleet.
The adventure aspect was just as strong as the racing. That night, competitors camped on the beach and even discovered “Flo”, the traditional log canoe considered an ancestor of surfing.

Tactical racing all week
Each stage brought its own challenges.
On the Grand Rivière → Trinité stage, riders faced nearly 1h45 of pure upwind in strong wind. Initially overpowered on his 6.5 m Pulse, Bastien started in third place before playing smart tactics along the coast to climb back and take another win.
The following days combined long reaches, fast downwinds and technical sections. During the Le Marin → Le Diamant → Le Marin stage, Bastien crashed early and dropped to third, but the speed of his Pulse 6.5 quickly brought him back into the lead. A tricky wind shadow around Le Diamant Rock even forced riders to paddle for nearly ten minutes before the wind returned.
Another memorable finish came in Le Marin, where Bastien had to slalom through a packed anchorage of sailboats to cross the finish line.

A perfect score
By the final day back in Le Robert Bay, Bastien had already built a flawless record. The last races alongside the island’s young riders provided a relaxed and festive end to the week.
In total, the event covered 427 km over 7 days, with stages ranging from 46 to 70 km. Bastien won 100% of the races, combining speed, consistency and strong tactical decisions throughout the raid.
“I’m really happy to have won the Martinique Wingfoil Adventure with a clean sweep. It was an incredible way to explore the coastline of Martinique while competing.” Bastien Escofet.
