GEAR: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ARAMID WING AND AN ARAMID X?

Breaking down the unique behavior and feel of the Code-X canopy.
The Team and Pro Team Series wings are at the forefront of both shape and construction innovations thanks to the use of advanced materials. All of them feature an inflatable structure (leading edge and center strut) made of UPE Aramid, a technical fabric that delivers increased rigidity, lightness, and strength.
The difference between a UPE Aramid wing and a UPE Aramid X lies in the canopy material.
- On the Droid and Neutra Aramid (Team Series), the canopy is made from triple ripstop spinnaker fabric, known for its excellent balance between performance, forgiveness, and comfort.
- The Droid and Neutra Aramid X (Pro Team Series) use Code-X Ripstop, a much stiffer and stronger canopy material. It delivers more power, a more direct response to rider input, and exceptional durability, allowing the wing to maintain its performance for longer.
In the end, it mostly comes down to feeling. Both constructions share the precision and lightness provided by UPE Aramid, but the Code-X version pushes responsiveness and liveliness even further, with a more direct and demanding behavior.

To better understand this subtle difference in sensations, Patrice Guénolé offers a simple comparison in response to a user: imagine two versions of the same high-end car. One would be the premium version, smooth and comfortable, while the other would be its sport or track version, firmer, more precise, and more intense in sensations.
Response on the GONG Galaxy group:
“For me everything is better in X because everything is clearer and sharper. Your actions are more direct.
But I also understand that many people love the mix of a very dynamic Aramid structure with a classic canopy that softens the contact.
So on all the points you mention, there’s no decisive difference that would make you clearly say yes or no, it’s more about a very different feeling.
If I had to compare it with cars from a major brand, it’s the same car, except one is the premium version and the other is its sport/track version.
The sport version (the X) will be firmer, with very precise steering and more intense, raw sensations.
The premium version will be great and smooth at the same time: less physical, less demanding, less harsh.” Patrice Guénolé, GONG boss and shaper.
