NEWS: JULIEN RATTOTTI OPENS THE SLALOM CONTEST WITH A WIN!
The competition resumed in Brazil with the women’s Surf Freestyle and the title race in Freefly-Slalom for the men.
The party which followed the incredible performance of our team riders in Surf-Freestyle was short-lived with a new day of competition for Clément, Julien and Bastien who’s still in the hunt for the world title in Brazil.
Final rounds of Surf-Freestyle
But before launching the boys onto the lagoon for the Freefly-Slalom elimination rounds, the girls concluded the Surf-Freestyle season where the stakes were honorary, the title having been decided several weeks ago already in favor of Nia Suardiaz.
In the GONG team, Sofia Marchetti performed consistently through the event, filling her score sheet with a Frontside 360 and Backside 360 plus 2 waves scores that were good enough to push her all the way to the semi-final before getting beaten by world champion Nia Suardiaz. In the end, Sofia took 3rd place overall, an impressive result for her during the World Cup as Orane Ceris sprained her knee and was unable to compete in the Mini final for 3rd place.

Conditions were very windy at the start of the day but dropped drastically as the afternoon progressed causing problems for many competitions dropping off the foil in the compact racecourse on the famous Cauipe Lagoon that allowed for nearly no margin of error.
Regarding equipment, Rattotti rode the Ypra-S S at 600cm2 where Bastien and Clement opted for bigger foils and rode the Ypra-S SM at 700cm2. Bastien unfortunately struggled in the first elimination placing out of a qualifying spot to make it into the first finals. Clement sailed smart avoiding crashes on the race course and qualifying for the small final after 2 very well sailed heats. The man in form on this first day was Julien Rattotti who won all the rounds with a victory in the first Elimination Final. The title race has only just begun though and the battle will be intense till the very end. Stay tuned for more in our magazine!
