Introduction

The Ypra S front wing is our slalom foil for advanced riders who want to be the fastest on the spot and go for the full speed jibe to come with total control.

Crowned U19 World Champion in Slalom under the feet of Malo Guénolé, this front wing is at the cutting edge of its program.

The glide of this wing is a game changer in the wing foiling world. You feel pulled forward at crazy speeds without any restraint. It’s breathtaking. Its thin thickness, its thin leading edge, and its moderate high aspect ratio give you all the ingredients to set new time records.

More accessible than the Ypra, it’s easier to take off with and maneuver. For a racing front wing, it’s great because this comfort allows you to choose a smaller size and therefore go even faster.

Traditionally speaking, all you need to go fast is a tiny front wing and hope for the best. But with the Ypra S, we have a profile that glides even in large sizes. It’s perfectly stable even on rough water, without ever lifting too much. The wing is healthy and ultra stable at high speed, like on rails. And yet it is easy to maneuver! From then on, high speeds are maintained in all situations and the average speed is significantly increased: by almost 5 knots. You can sail full speed for miles without breaking a sweat. With the Ypra S, we ride close to 30 knots with the same intensity that we would ride at 22/25 knots with a classic performance wing.

We enter in the maneuvers with speed and the glide of the Ypra S is such that we can get out almost as quickly, which is decisive in racing. The directional stability of this front wing translates to very healthy curves. And as it is more compact than its sister, the tips don’t ventilate when we’re being too greedy in a turn. So we can go for broke with no fear. It’s awesome.

The large wingspan of its moderate but still high aspect ratio stabilizes the wing. So we can really push on it. If an error occurs, the thin profile will recover immediately at very high speed, meaning that ventilating can be a non-event. It’s almost insignificant.

For the first time in wing foiling, thanks to the Ypra S, the gear is not limiting in a slalom type of practice. We can challenge all other foil sports without any feeling of inferiority.

Understand each wing in detail

Small wings are suitable for very high speeds and strong wind. The bigger ones are more comfortable, take off earlier and are also designed to sail at high speeds. The criterion of choice is therefore not only the size of the foiler, but rather the use.

The XS-S has a 60 cm wingspan, 460 cm² and is 0.8 cm thick for a volume of 0.19L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a very small wing which can be suitable for pros. Looking for: maximum speed and long curves in tow-in sessions in very very big conditions.
  • In wing foiling, it’s very small but perfect for a lightweight in very strong wind who wants to reach crazy speeds and go big in jumps.
  • In kite foiling, it’s great to go full speed, the wingspan is moderate so easily manageable.

The S-S has a 70 cm wingspan, 610 cm² and is 1.0 cm thick for a volume of 0.29L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a very small wing which can be suitable for pros. Looking for: maximum speed and long curves in tow-in sessions in big conditions.
  • In wing foiling, it’s very small but perfect for a lightweight in strong wind who wants to reach crazy speeds and go big in jumps.
  • In kite foiling, it’s great to go full speed, the wingspan is still manageable.

The M-S has a 80 cm wingspan, 785 cm² and is 1.1 cm thick for a volume of 0.43L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a small wing which can be suitable for pros of good size. Looking for: maximum speed and solid turns with stability in tow-in.
  • In wing foiling, it’s small but perfect for an average size who wants to sail at high speeds and send in freestyle.

The L-S has a 90 cm wingspan, 1000 cm² and is 1.2 cm thick for a volume of 0.61L.

The XL-S has a 100 cm wingspan, 1200 cm² and is 1.4 cm thick for a volume of 0.84L.

Shape

The shape of the Ypra S is dedicated to speed with a preference for gaits close to crosswind. This new world champion wing is made to win slalom races or drop friends in the distance 😉

Moderate high aspect ratio

The very slender outline of this wing gives it finesse by reducing the chord and the thickness of the profile compared to a classic high performance wing. However, its ratio is less extreme than that of the Ypra. The Ypra S has more chord in the center of the outline to concentrate lift in order to help with take off and maneuvering. This is why we speak of a moderate high aspect ratio: it is a high ratio, without being too extreme. The performance is crazy since you generate much less drag than with a classic ratio, without losing much lift for a similar surface area. We even gain a little from a certain speed since the profile will fly faster overall, speed being the source of lift.

High aspect ratio moderation is the key of this wing.

The outline

The leading edge is quite curved back for a healthy feeling in the curves. Rail to rail is great for a high aspect wing. Which also helps the magical pop of this front wing.

The rather centered distribution of the outline’s surface lightens the efforts on the tips and improves handling.

Tips

Moderate surface of the tips, which keep just enough surface to boost heading and improve stability. A slight upward twisting of the tips makes it easier to set the front wing in the curve for a “lighter” rail to rail underfoot.

The type of profile

The profile is fine, with an almost sharp leading edge and a set back maximum width. Less tolerant than a beginner front wing, it is on the other hand totally loose. The thinness of the leading edge and the set back of the maximum thickness make for a water flow without any restraint. This is a knife that will cut through water like no other front wing.

Moving the profile back and making it thinner in front considerably reduces the nose down moment. This relieves the stab and the front-rear downforce remains almost constant, even at very high speed. This is an essential point to obtain a perfectly manageable foil at top speed.

The supercritical profile is hollow when approaching the trailing edge to catch the water trickles as cleanly as possible. Less drag equals more speed and less erratic behavior.

Its ability to accept the highest speeds is just perfect.

The camber

The camber in the shape of an “omega” gives a lot of stability to the wing which rests in its trajectory, which reassures and allows you to press the accelerator pedal even more. It’s so stress-free at full speed, that you feel like you could just sit down for a coffee.

To fully understand the effects of the camber, we can summarize by saying that its shape kind of acts like a board’s hull: Vee for maneuverability, concave for stability and lift. On the Ypra S we really get closer to a board with a nice concave between your feet: it’s powerful and wedged.

Setting

The placement of the lift point is constant throughout the range so as to always keep the same setting for the same behavior when changing wing size. However, on the Ypra S you will appreciate moving your foil back one to two centimeters to control the gain in top speed.

The highest ratios in our range contain a large number of high modulus carbon layers.

This carbon is 4 to 6 times more expensive than top of the range Prepreg. It provides the essential mechanical rigidity to the proper functioning of these very thin and large foils. Many brands choose to have thicker profiles so as not to use high modulus carbon. Not making this choice allowed us to become world slalom champions with this front wing.

Its high modulus carbon construction is super rigid and responsive. It maintains a formidable dynamic despite the lower thicknesses. This technology is the very best in high pressure, high temperature molded carbon construction

TORAY M40J high modulus carbon offers incredible stiffness. It is a high-end carbon that delivers high mechanical properties while remaining resistant. A carbon popular in aeronautics as well as for high-end sports equipment. Its mechanical characteristics such as its superior tensile strength and Young’s modulus translate to exceptional performance in navigation.
The other layers of these front wings are made of 3K and 12K Prepreg carbon, with a total of over 15 fiber layers on the profile, and many more in the fitting areas.

High stress points such as fittings and connections are reinforced with Kevlar to resist tearing and fiberglass for tolerance. It is essential to place specific fibers according to the different types of stress in addition to the carbon which will produce dynamism.

On the high aspect wings, we have added a central stringer made of full prepreg carbon, which runs from one tip to the other. This acts as a solid beam to boost rigidity, namely by the extreme dynamic connection it provides between the intrado and the extrado.

Molded at high pressure and high temperature on a foam core, our wings are almost indestructible.

It is the perfect balance between low weight and “infinite” durability/repairability.

Wing tips are a potential source of danger. We take care not to produce an intrinsically dangerous design, within the limits of efficient hydrodynamics. We invite you to be extremely careful though because these parts remain sharp and dangerous by nature. Stay away, wear the proper protections, and never sharpen them. Systematically repair the slightest hitch in the outline because it represents a danger for you and others if it were to cut your leash for example. In all situations, the greatest caution is required. If in doubt, abstain (waves, strong wind, etc.). The foil is by nature a dangerous object in the same way as a knife or a chainsaw for example. Never sail alone and without any protection. Do not approach others. And be careful even on land when handling your foil.

The Ypra S wing is ideal with technical boards with noble constructions such as FSP PRO boards in full PVC Carbon sandwich and reference race wings such as the Pulse.

Positioning of the foil ?

For the GONG foils, place the top plate at the rear third of the US rails for surf, SUP and kite. Place it in the middle of the US rails when using it with a wing foil.

The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available ?

 

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

 

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

 

Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

 

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

 

Reception of your front wing:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

    TEST YPRA LS 1000 SURFOIL
    Test à pondérer car c’est la première session avec : mon nouveau mât HM 70 et cette ypra S donc .
    entre 50/80/120cm sur les plus grosses , de longues portions molles et d’autres avec du jus et de la portance .
    J’avais le même réglage qu’avec ma MH fluid 1000.
    Clairement, j’aurais dû reculer un chouille mon mât, car l’aile a plus de portance dès que ça part au take off, mais ne se fait pas sentir au pied avant, juste qu’elle cherche trèèès rapidement à décoller !
    Glisse d’une ypra, très bonne , la vitesse, difficile de juger en surfoil, mais je ne vais pas moins vite qu’en fluid H ça c’est certain .
    Mais en début de session, j’avais de très (trop) longues portions e vagues plates , molles et qui ne portaient pas du tout avec un vent de face léger…Et bien pour une 1000 et mes 86 kg voire 87 même snif, je n’en reviens pas de sa portance si la lecture de l’onde est bonne … top !
    Ca porte super bien , et ça pompe super bien tant que l’on est dans l’axe de la glisse , car pour remonter au pic ou même connecter 50m…je pense que c’est une autre paire de manche avec cette 1000, je dirais même impossible pour mon gabarit….clairement, l’aile n’est pas faite pour cela , on le sent de suite .
    En maniabilité, je la trouve très bonne , précise, et tu la mets ou tu veux ! je dirais entre une véloce et une fluid … lors du round house cutback par exemple , tu sens qu’elle n’enroule pas comme la fluid , on serait plus proche de la veloce mais avec la facilité de la fluid . Tu me comprends ?? hihi
    En wing, ça va être une bien belle affaire c’est certain, en surfoil, je suis pondéré pour le moment , à confirmer / à ma fluid MH actuel.
    Hâte de tester la 1200 ypra S , je sens que ça va être un bon crû.
    Pour le mât HM 70…. What A F… !!!!! RIGIDE en torsion comme y a pas , et l’océan est DUR sous les pieds quand tu rides , et quand tu pompes ….ultra précis mamamiaaaaa !
    Pour mon gabarit , c’est vraiment ce qu’il me faut , c’est certain !
    A toute pour d’autres sessions 😉

    PS : Après une bonne nuit, d’autres réflexions me viennent qui seront à confirmer , mais je pense également que cette ypra S 1000 est plus maniable que ma MH fluid quand j’y repense…. Dans la courbe, elle “pousse” moins fort, et tu peux donc enchainer encore plus facilement je trouve … Ma dernière vague semble vouloir me le confirmer , j’ai pû enchainer trèèès facilement les courbes car j’avais du jus sur cette vague, dns le très mou et tout petit , il me semble que j’avais plus de mal à tenir la relance en fin de manoeuvre …bref, à réessayer dans les vagues et vite , mais c’est je pense , une aile dédiée effectivement au wingfoil plus qu’au surfoil, avec le pumping pour connecter dont on peut avoir besoin et la hypra n’est pas faite pour cela.. Ca devrait être une bombe, hâte d’avoir les conditions .

    Récupéré samedi midi au shop a la Baule et testé en fin d’après midi ?.
    – YpraS-XL + stab Fluid H 45.
    – HipePro 5’3
    – Mat85 Alu V2
    – Très bien toilé en Plus 2023 6m (18kn et +)
    – 97kg non équipé.
    Le plan d’eau était très Bumpy, donc difficile de parler de sensations précises mais sur une session de 1h30, j’ai été globalement étonné de l’accessibilité.
    L’aile que j’adore et utilisé le plus est une Véloce L-T avec le stab Fluid H 45.
    Plusieurs bonne surprises avec cette Ypra-S XL:
    – Je n’ai pas eu de temps d’adaptation que ce soit en décollage en pompant ou sur une risée juste en bordant, le Foil génère facilement du lift et on peut s’appuyer dessus rapidement.
    – malgré le plan d’eau secoué parfois un peu musclé, pas de retour dans l’aile avant de tous les mouvements d’eau.
    – la vitesse limite est très basse, on peut descendre très bas en vitesse sans décrocher ?.
    – ça plaaaaane, j’accrochais le moindre clapot!
    – le pumping m’a surpris de facilité, on peut appuyer dessus et relancer a basse vitesse sans faire de trou dans l’eau et si ça décroche on arrive à faire raccrocher l’aile en lui redonnant le bon angle.
    – De même, quand on la fait sortir par erreur, elle se rattrape assez facilement, même quitte à taper le nose de la planche Asse fort, ça repart après le rebond…
    – le gibe sont plus technique car l’aile est plus maniable qu’une Véloce L-T, mais ça passe très bien des les premières tentatives.
    – Je me suis mis dans des situations et je me suis récupéré d’une façon que je n’aurais pas envisagé en Véloce L-T !( Déséquilibre latéral ou en arrière, planche en travers…).
    – Jamais débordé, il fallait vraiment une énorme rafale en plus d’une vague qui creuse méchamment pour me faire sortir et j’arrivais parfois a raccrocher l’avion !!!
    Bref très surpris par cette prise en main surtoilé, j’ai retrouvé la confiance que j’avais avec la Véloce L-T, avec beaucoup de vitesse en plus.
    L’essai de la Ypra XL “normal” m’avait laissé un grand sentiment de frustration (ok, essayée dans un vent trop faible et un plan d’eau défoncé , ce qui n’a pas dû m’aider).
    Cette Ypra-S XL est très accessible et super performante… C’est le matos idéal pour la transition des ailes modérés vers les ratio élevés

    Personnellement j’adore la gamme YPRA.
    J’ai d’ailleurs commandé la YPRA LS pour la mettre dans la houle, je suis sûr qu’elle va être topissime vu les côtes, et si elle garde le glide qu’on lui connaît…. Mamma mia ?.

    J’ai une Ypra M-S et cette aile est juste dingue!!
    Elle est tout de suite devenue la front wing principale de mon quiver pour sa polyvalence.
    C’est toujours une ypra pas de doute, l’accélération est folle et la Vmax juste flippante ? , mais surtout le rail to rail est bien plus intuitif qu’avec sa grande soeur la ypra “classique”. Comme si ce n’était pas suffisant, le pop est fou ce qui en fait une machine de freestyle et son profil rapide permet d’aller surfer des grosses houles sans se faire déborder, bref, gavade dans toutes les conditions quoi !
    Je recommande à fond vous ne serez pas déçu! Pour les rider avertis bien sûr ?

    Une super FW pour mon utilisation en freerace ainsi que pour les sauts et le carving. Elle est très saine à haute vitesse, je peux lui faire confiance et appuyer franchement dans les courbes. C’est mon nouveau set-up de référence avec le mât HM et le stab pro Fluid.
