GEAR: WITH OR WITHOUT A HARNESS IN WING ?

Riding without a harness is sexy because it makes you feel free. You can move in all directions, it’s really pleasant. On the other hand, you can’t sail overpowered to avoid having your arms stretched out. This means having to pump often to take off.

Within our range, the models are more or less easy without a harness:
- The Wing Plus is soft but powerful, and therefore easy without a harness in low range.
- The Wing Superpower is the most powerful, and therefore not the easiest without a harness.
- The Wing Pulse is dedicated to long tacks and speed, so much better used in the harness.
- The Wing Droid is powerful, so we recommend the harness between tricks.
- The Wing Neutra is lively but often used underpowered in waves, and therefore very easy without a harness.
So, if on the other hand you like to ride with a lot of power, the use of a harness is almost mandatory if you don’t want to do sessions limited to one hour. In this case, the installation of harness lines is super simple, (see our tutorials on the Forum). We advise you to use a harness that isn’t too stiff and that envelops you well, with a windsurfing type hook. Very light 24 to 28cm harness lines because heavy windsurfing lines can hurt your face.
So, it’s up to you to see if sensation prevails over performance.
The important thing to remember is that the wing pulls your arms upwards: you are not the one lifting the wing, except under 8/10 knots. But indeed in the wind it must be held back. But the structure of the wings being inflatable, it absorbs the heavy gusts for you. This is also what restricts its maximum performance.
