GEAR: WHAT SIZE SHOULD I SELECT FOR MY WING BOARD ?

A buying guide is developed specifically for each model in our range. In addition to the detailed program of the board, you can find out the size you should select according to your weight, your level and your expectations on the water.

Calculation of the size according to your weight

For each model in our range, we offer you a small calculation trick that helps you to select the size that suits you. For instance for the Lance, we advise you to take a volume of around your + 30  to be comfortable.

Examples for a Lance (7kg) and different weights:

1/ I weigh 70kg + 30 = 100L would be easy. Which means that with a Lance 5’7 of 120L I would be very comfortable but without excess. The minimum to float is: 70kg + 7kg = 77L.

2/ I weigh 85kg + 30 = 115L would be easy. Which means that with a Lance 5’8 of 130L I would be very comfortable but without excess. The minimum to float is: 85kg + 7kg = 92L.

3/ I weigh 100kg + 30 = 130L would be easy. Which means that with a Lance 5’9 of 140L I would be comfortable but without excess. The minimum to float is: 100kg + 7kg = 107L.

BE CAREFUL, this calculation rule is specific to the Lance. To calculate this, consult the buying guide for the board you want.

The choice of size also depends on your expectations

Using the small calculation above one can easily find a size that fits him. However, depending on your expectations, you might be looking for another size, either for more comfort or more performance.

This is often the central question when selecting a size. Should I look more for performance rather than comfort or vice versa? The question is indeed central but it must be calibrated. It is not quite right to oppose comfort against performance. Moreover, comfort leads to more performance: you will have more fun on a comfortable board of which you can exploit 80% of the performance than on a too technical board of which you only use 20% of the performance. It is better to choose a board that will allow you to fully progress before switching to a less comfortable model. With practice, the transition will happen naturally.

In addition, we must put the importance of size into perspective. Each board is designed for a specific program, a smaller or larger size will not prevent it from expressing its qualities. A new board is always a learning process, regardless of its level of comfort. Harnessing all of its qualities takes practice. Be aware of the floatation limit on small boards, however. A sinking board is very technical, very physical and makes you lose part of the low wind range. The risk is also that you won’t be as relaxed as on a bigger board, resulting in a slower evolution.

The final choice depends mainly on the type of practitioner you are. If you are experienced in board sports or live close enough to a spot to practice regularly, you may well consider a smaller size. Conversely, give yourself more comfort and therefore pleasure in every session if you have less opportunity to practice.

If you need more help with your choice, please note that the level of performance and comfort of our products is regularly mentioned by our customers in the feedbacks that we publish in the magazine. Many opinions are also available on our forum. Our technical advisers can also guide you, whether in store or via the contact form.
