GEAR: HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR KITE?

As every gear exposed to salt, sand and sun, a kite must be maintained for lack of which it could wear itself out earlier than expected.

If you get out of the water with a wet kite, there is no need to dry it if you’re using it very regularly on salted water, the salt protecting fabrics from moisture. You also don’t need to rinse it with freshwater after each sesh: chlorine and the pH of city water are more damaging to kites than salted water.
Another important point: never let your kite be exposed to the sun for hours! UV rays are the number one cause for gear to age prematurely. You should neither let it flap in the wind at the risk of seriously reducing your kite’s lifespan.
Beware of the remaining sand that acts as sandpaper and will rub into the spinnaker and eventually damage the kite’s stitching.
If you don’t sail for a long time, store your kite in a clean and dry place. A regular check-up is needed to foresee every bigger repair. For your safety, regularly watch out for the state of your kite bar and lines.
Safety first! If you follow these instructions, you’ll perfectly protect your gear and put every chance by your side to sail for a looooong time with the same gear.
