FEEDBACK: YPRA SLALOM V3
Be ready for speed runs with more control and the use of smaller foil sizes thanks to the V3 range.
Wing foiler: Francesco, GONG team rider, with the Racer FSP Pro and Droid SP Aramid CZ.
Less resistance and more control
“First test of the Ypra Slalom M V3, 800 cm² with the Slalom V3 S stabilizer.
I tested it over four different days: two days in choppy water and two days on flat water, using a 4.5 m and a 3 m wing.
I compared it with the foil I was using the most before: the Ypra Surf Freestyle V2 in size L (900 cm²) paired with the Freestyle S stab.
The biggest difference, I would say, is the feeling in the water. It gives the sensation of having less resistance and more control when you try to push and go faster. Even when not riding at the limit, the foil feels slightly faster. The lift and the effort required to take off are, in my opinion, very similar to the V2 900.”
Big upgrade with the new fuselage
“For jumping and popping, the feeling is also very similar. Previously I was using the short fuselage, while here I’m on the standard one: the pop feels basically the same, but the ride is noticeably more stable. Another very good point is that you can now use one fuselage for every type of foil.
The new fuselage, with fewer screws and all of the same size, is also a very nice improvement.
To summarize: compared to the Surf Freestyle V2, I would say the overall feeling and control are improved, but the biggest upgrade is definitely the new fuselage, and the fact that you can comfortably ride a smaller-size foil compared to the V2s.
The only “problem” I found, as others have already pointed out, is that the V2 mast is compatible but doesn’t fit perfectly. I don’t know if this is just an aesthetic issue or if it actually affects performance.” Tomasso on the GONG Galaxy group.
