Discover a whole new dimension of glide with the Veloce HDW, as Tytouan shares his first impressions.
SUP foiler: Moritz, GONG team rider, on a NOTW EPS Pro with a Carbon Pro paddle.
Glide & Acceleration
"Do you ever glide bro? Received and tested the new toy this weekend! Veloce HDW XL 1200! And honestly, the glide is insane! Impressive!"
"I was previously riding the Veloce XXL 1300 for DW paddle, so I’ve lost 100cm² and went from a 10.1 to a 13.3 aspect ratio.
The Veloce already has very good glide, but here… it’s another level.
The foil is less accessible than a Veloce, but if you know how to use it properly, to me it’s only upside!
In terms of glide, the foil uses the slightest bit of energy. It’s a bit unsettling at first because it accelerates even where you wouldn’t expect it."
Takeoff & Stability
"As for takeoff, I didn’t struggle compared to my Veloce. It’s just different, you need more cadence and to paddle longer before a fully completed takeoff. But the glide-in is more progressive than the Veloce, less on/off! It’s something you get used to.
But stability is a different story! That’s where the accessibility gap shows. You need to handle the wingspan and be extremely precise in your piloting so the foil doesn’t take you for a ride! Pumping also needs to be precise and perfectly aligned to maximize efficiency."
Board, Front Wing & Stab Set-Up
"I used the HDW XL this weekend with the M tail fuselage and a Veloce L stab on a Biggy 8’3, with a 77 V3 mast.
On the GPS tracks we had an 18 km pure DW run with around 20 knots, with good lulls and some rare gusts, plus a session with a 1-hour upwind in lowkite Neutra 4m V2 and a 30-min paddle downwind, with an average of 15/20 knots and some slightly stronger gusts.
In any case, I’m very happy with my purchase. I’ll do a few more sessions to keep improving and eventually feel confident enough to size down.
The Ultra Trail with its 16 aspect ratio is also calling my name… The glide must be absolutely crazy!"
