GEAR: WHICH SIRUS TO CHOOSE FOR VERY LIGHT WIND IN WING FOIL?
Our size recommendation for the most efficient foil in extremely light conditions.
A benchmark for pump foiling thanks to its exceptional glide and lift, the Sirus also defies gravity in wing foiling. It lifts you off the water with minimal effort. Thanks to this foil, which needs only a few knots to take off, light-wind sessions become surprisingly smooth and enjoyable.
A tiny gust, a few gentle pumping movements… and you’re already flying. It’s simply magical.
For wing foiling, two sizes stand out especially in very light conditions:
-
Sirus L: 116 cm / 1450 cm²
-
Sirus XL: 136 cm / 1700 cm²

Which one should you choose?
Here’s the opinion of Patrice Guénolé, GONG boss and shaper, who fine-tunes the choice depending on your goals, and above all, the pleasure you’re looking for on the water:
“Target takeoff in 8 knots or less: XL
Target takeoff from 8 to 12 knots: L is enough.
Personally, when winging on the Sirus, it’s XL or nothing, because as soon as it takes off easily I switch to the Veloce XL for more top speed and the same gliding feel.
What’s the point of choosing a Sirus L over an XL for a heavier rider? Maneuverability. But I think the low-end range of the Sirus is extremely radical… and in that sense, half-measures lead to half-pleasures.
I’d rather try carving a giant wing that flies in 3 pumps than turn a bit better but need twice as many pumps to take off.
Must be the longboarder in me…”
