For the third time in a row, Malo reached a man on man final of an event gathering the world best in Freestyle!
After reaching the final of the Surf-Freestyle World Cup in Lanzarote, and following a final in France which earned him the title of Freestyle vice-world champion for the under-19s, Malo, only 17 years old, has once again outperformed a field of talented competitors to reach the final in Tarifa.

Crowned 3 weeks as the new U19 Race world champion, Malo shows impressive regularity at the highest level, event after event, and heat after heat in Freestyle where he collects heat scores in the excellent range. In fine form from the start of the Freestyle event in Tarifa, he easily qualified for the third round where he sent a massive Frontside 7 rewarded with a 9.5, the best score of the event. This momentum got him to the quarters where he faced Chris McDonald. A remake of the Surf-Freestyle final lost by Malo earlier this month at the under-19 world championship. On this occasion it is Malo who came out of this duel of champions with the W next to his name! Only 3 hundredths of a point separated them at the end of a quarter-final marked by the commitment and the amplitude of the tricks.

In the semis, Malo and his opponent, Camille Bouyer, went blow for blow. Malo performed superb front and back flips and finished with a super clean frontside 7 that Camille could not match in this heat. Malo reaches the final, again !
Facing Malo in the final was Xavi Corr, a young gun from Tarifa, aged 15 years old and winner of a heat against the reigning world champion in the semi-finals! A final which confirms that we must reckon with the younger generation at the highest level. The two last contenders for victory put on a great performance in a tricky final marked by an increasing wind. As it is often the case in Freestyle events, it all played out in the dying seconds of the heat. As Malo took control of the heat with a Frontside 3, Xavi Corr went for broke with a Frontside 7 which he perfectly landed in the last seconds. A last trick that got him the edge over Malo who could only congratulate his opponent for his performance. At the end of this fourth and penultimate event of the Freestyle world tour, Malo sits in third place in the overall rankings. Follow him in the last event in Brazil for more massive tricks and buzzer beater moments !
