The iconic wax of surf culture

Sex Wax fits naturally into the GONG universe with a product inseparable from surfing: wax. Created in California in the early 1970s by Frederick Herzog, better known as Mr. Zog, the brand has developed formulas since 1972 to improve traction between a surfer's feet and board.

Born in Goleta, California, Sex Wax quickly became known in surf shops along the coast before spreading to surfers around the world. The brand is now based in Carpinteria near the famous Rincon surf break, while retaining an identity strongly associated with Californian surf culture.

A history directly connected to Californian surfing

The Sex Wax story begins when Mr. Zog, then a shaper and surf-shop owner, meets chemist Nate Skinner. Together they develop and test different formulas to achieve the level of traction required on a surfboard.

Its name, recognisable logo and offbeat world quickly gave Sex Wax a unique identity. Behind that image, the brand serves a very practical purpose: giving riders the grip needed to secure their stance and retain control of the board.

Wax formulas for different water temperatures

Sex Wax offers several surfboard wax ranges, including Original, Quick Humps, Really Tacky and Dream Cream. Different compositions allow grip to be matched to water temperature, with formulas for cold, cool, warm and tropical conditions.
