TEAM NEWS: LACK OF WIND DEPRIVES RACERS OF A FINAL IN CHINA

The Chinese leg of the Wing Foil Racing Tour unfortunately concluded before finals day.
The event had started well for the 113 participants, with two marathon races in the waters surrounding Pingtan Island. The entire field competed in these long-distance courses, which then determined smaller groups of racers for the qualifying rounds. The 2024 World Champion over this distance, Bastien Escofet, stood out in these races by achieving the highest top speed, clocking in at over 33 knots. All the GONG team racers placed themselves in the leading group despite the challenges posed by numerous plastic bags and significantly strengthening winds. They were then divided into qualifying heats meant to determine the final, originally scheduled for Sunday, August 25th.

Qualifying Rounds
The Chinese leg also served as a full-scale test for Pulse UPE Aramid DP prototypes featuring a series of innovations. Our riders adapted quickly, with Francesco Cappuzzo securing 5 wins out of 6 in the qualifying rounds, and Bastien Escofet also achieving 5 wins out of 6 in his series. Julien Rattotti closely followed this performance with 5 second-place finishes and one race victory. The Sunday final was set to be spectacular, given the strong performances, but unfortunately, due to a lack of wind during the last three days of the waiting period, we will have to wait for the next events in Sardinia in October and Brazil in December to see the much-anticipated showdown.
The final standings, representing the results from the start of the event, crown Mathis Ghio and Nia Suardiaz, with Francesco Cappuzzo in third, Bastien Escofet in fourth, and Julien Rattotti in sixth.
