Solid tricks and multiple innovations propel the young guns of the GWA Surf-Freestyle Tour into the final!
The last GWA Surf-Freestyle event of the season came to a close in Jericoacoara, Brazil, with a new showcase of spectacular tricks from the competitors, sending higher, more tweaked, and more innovative moves than ever. If there's one lesson to be learned from this season, it's that tricks that won you competitions a year ago, like the backloop spin, need to be revisited. This is something the finalists of this event mastered perfectly with for example, enhancing their backloop spins with a FS360!
This final highlights another significant event: the rise of very young talents on the tour. A final that brought together the Acherer twins, Axel Gerard, and our team rider Clément Hamon. The reigning champion, Chris McDonald, and last year's runner-up, Malo Guénolé, were notably absent, as they were eliminated in the early rounds, much to everyone's surprise. This paved the way for a fresh winner after two seasons where Chris and Malo had alternated wins in Surf-Freestyle.

Semi-finals and final
In the first semi-final, a 100% French matchup, Clément and Axel triumph over Bastien Escofet and Noé Cuyala, who both had disappointing heats in comparison with their run so far. In the other semi-final, the Austrian brothers Tomas and Aleksander Acherer took the win, with Tomas scoring a perfect 10 for landing a double backflip.
The four finalists give it their all in the final, delivering a showcase of the best tricks of the moment: FS1040, Backloop spin FS360, Backmob 360, Frontflip FS360, and several innovations. The scores were incredibly tight, and the outcome was uncertain until the final round of tricks. Clément was the first to take off, going all-in with a daring double backflip attempt that would have propelled him to the top, but couldn’t hold it together on the landing. Aleksander and Axel followed with a crash each, leaving the victory to Tomas. The four competitors are closely bunched, with Tomas at 27.80, his brother Aleksander at 26.50, Axel at 26.07, and Clément at 25.70.
A big congratulations to all the riders for the spectacular performances in both Surf-Freestyle and Freefly-Slalom, with a special shoutout to Francesco Cappuzzo, who reached the quarter-finals after focusing on Freefly-Slalom, where he secured the title.
This last event showcases the amazing progression of the sport. We can't wait to see the tricks the riders will bring next season!
