RETROSPECTIVE: 2024 HIGHLIGHTS

Here's a look back at some moments that stood out for GONG fans in 2024.

From an historic victory in epic conditions at Ponta Preta, to a full podium to conclude the year in Freefly-Slalom, 2024 was once again a year packed with thrilling moments for all the boardsports fans following our team riders. It was also a year highlighted by product releases that will make a lasting impact. The V3 foils, for example, are setting new standards of performance, glide, and water fun for thousands of foilers.

2024 also marked the launch of a kite range that’s securing podium positions in Kite-Surf and Hydrofoil Big Air World Cups with our team riders, and providing all kitesurfers with a range to have a blast at their home spot. And that’s the essence of it—feeling those sensations on the water that make us hooked on weather forcasts. A common passion that inspires us daily at GONG and became our mantra in January: Live For it.

Here are 12 highlights, among a multitude of events we could have selected, that capture the year 2024 month by month.

January: A new chapter in our visual identity begins

Through a new visual identity, GONG reaffirms its mission to unite all board sports fans around the essentials: sharing intense sensations on the water through innovative, high-performance, and affordable equipment for all riders. Live For It.

February: Malo wins the competition of the year at Ponta Preta

This competition at Ponta Preta marks a turning point in our understanding of what's possible in wing foiingl. The best riders faced epic conditions that were both thrilling and intimidating. In this interview, Malo revisits this Wave Riding competition that will remain in everyone's memories.

March: First images of our 2024 kites and a father-son wing foil trip 

In Windy’s, two generations of riders come together, united by their shared desire for intense sensations on the water. Whether performing old school or new school tricks, what matters is sending it. That’s exactly what Malo and Patrice do during this unforgettable trip.

April: Functional or recreational Wear collections

Our goal is to support you in your passion by offering a Wear collection that fits your needs, whether for your sessions or everyday life. From t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets to brave the elements, to more functional items like Waterproof Ponchos for your after-session. Don’t forget our Bodyguard range, released last spring, designed to protect you in the event of a bad fall while foiling.

May: A new range of kite 

Unmatched performance, smooth flow in surfing, extraordinary lift in big air, amazing kite loop rotations, full accessibility for beginners, and remarkable speed in light wind—the kites in this range embody the kitesurfing disciplines that inspire us.

June: Opening up light wind winging for everyone

Gone are the days of needing oversized equipment to enjoy light wind days! This session highlights it perfectly, as Patrice glides effortlessly with a 4.5m² Droid UPE Aramid X, a Veloce HDW in size L, and a Cruzader Point FSP Pro 6'0.

July: New V3 foil range

An unprecedented experience in the market, with hundreds of thousands of foils sold, direct contact with our users, and rare development resources, has led to the creation of a high aspect foil range that truly changes the game.

August: A surf trip to the roots

Answering the call of countless images and tales that shaped the legend of the archipelago, the journey of countless surf lovers, and the very essence of our sports, Malo spent 20 days in the heart of the Pacific, embracing an extraordinary setting that pays tribute to the Ocean like nowhere else.

September: New conditions open up to you

This year is also defined by the emergence of practices that call for conditions beyond those usually expected for kite, surf, SUP, or wing foil sessions. The conditions required for getting on the water now include those for DW, Flat Start, or Dock Start as highlighted by our team rider Lou in this Insight.

October: One Year Call

There are some rare calls you just can't ignore! Like the one for a swell of the perfect size and direction, hitting a reef break just below the surface and offering long, intense rides and visions. Our team rider Mateia answered this call for a surf trip he’ll never forget.

November: Leading development and innovation

Similar to the development of an extensive range of low-kites that go beyond just being able to take off  for a downwinder, we dedicate our R&D efforts to complete solutions for your sessions. As always, it's the sensations and enjoyment on the water that are most important. And there’s even more to discover in 2025!
