It’s official! Thanks to his performance in the last event in Brazil, Malo is now the new Wing Foil World Champion in Surf-Freestyle at only 17!

Wing foiler: Malo, team rider GONG, on a Lethal FSP Pro 2023, Neutra, HM 85 mast, Ypra S and Fluid H stab.

Ranked third in the world after back-to-back finals in Lanzarote and Tarifa, Malo was one of the last 3 contenders for the title with Gollito Estredo and Chris MacDonald (Balz Müller having had to withdraw due to injury). Given the form he displayed during his training on the spots of Taiba, Malo was quickly considered as a favorite for the event. Title hopes were high and looking good from the get go with the best scores of the field during the first few rounds in a new heat format that suits him perfectly. Indeed, for the first time this year, the conditions made it possible to count two waves per heat in addition to one freestyle trick. To win a heat you had to be the most complete rider with a solid freestyle trick and two waves ridden with fluidity, speed and a variety of maneuvers. A game in which Malo shone in conditions that he likes for the possibilities they offer and the technical challenge they represent.

With the humility and kindness that characterize Malo, his first words on the beach were for his parents. He thanked them for their enormous support. Malo also thanked GONG for the top notch gear that allowed him to realize his dream. A family affair as his (production) boards are shaped by Patrice Guénolé aka L’Ours, boss and shaper GONG, and now the very proud father of a talented world champion! Malo concludes in the most beautiful way an exceptional year where he asserted himself as a high-level waterman during the filming of the film Paomelon and an outstanding competitor on the world stage. A year that has seen the sport grow like never before and we at GONG are proud to be a driving force of this dynamic.
