NEWS: THE POSITION OF THE FOIL !!!

The US boxes that equip the foil boards allow you to adjust the position of your foil. A foil positioned further forward will pitch up and exert more pressure on the front leg. This position promotes maneuverability. Conversely, a foil positioned further back is easier to control but less maneuverable.

To start, it’s better to move your foil back and move it forward little by little to find its optimal position. When this optimal position is found, it’s no longer relevant to play around with that setting, whether for flying earlier in the lightwind or gaining control in strong winds.
L’Ours explains why:
“The adjustment of the position of the foil in the boxes is not a setting to be adjusted according to the conditions, but according to:
- Your foil: some setups tend to pitch up more or less, so if it’s rather pitching up it must be moved back (Veloce for example), and some offer a lot of lift and there too it must be moved back.
- Your weight: the strong builds will often need more lift, pressure in the front foot, so to move the foil forward.
- The distribution of the pressure: some like to do everything with the rear foot, others with the front foot, it’s according to the tastes and the habits of each one. So we move the foil back to have more pressure in the rear foot.
Once the basic setting has been found, it’s not necessary to change it for this foil on this board. Whether it’s a session in 10 knots or 40 knots, it’s the same.
Obviously we can think that moving it will facilitate certain situations: moving it back in a strong wind for example. But in reality we see that the gain in control obtained is lost in the need to change its reference points, its balance, etc. … In the end you won’t gain performance. You will gain more from knowing your foil/board combination perfectly by making it an inseparable package.”
