Malo takes the win in the prone foiling event organized by the Wing Foil Tour in Morocco.
The show went on after the last heats of the Wing Foil Wave Tour in Dakhla with a prone foiling event in which the remaining competitors on site showcased their wingless skills in the waves.
A pure surfing contest was set with the two best waves determining the winner of each heat.
There was a notable difference with a classic surfing event though as the wave noted wasn’t necessarily the one on which the surfer had made his take off. Indeed, connecting a wave out the back was authorized. The surfers could exit the wave for a wave with a higher scoring potential rising on the horizon. A magic stairway to the best sets that they widely took advantage of in their heats.

Carves, tricks and flow
The relatively small and windy conditions would not have been a dream set-up for a surfing contest but it was a totally different story for a prone foiling one as the contenders were flying above the chop on foils that generate tons of speed. In addition, the set-up of the spot, a long right-hand point break, allowed them to demonstrate their wide repertoire of turns and tricks on a wave that kept on giving faces to work with.
The basics for obtaining a substantial score was to surf the waves with speed and fluidity, the best also punctuated their performance with snaps on the verge of coming off foil, airs and 360s. A recipe for excellence applied to the letter by Malo who from the first heat to the final was the author of the best waves. Each one of them was a demonstration of carves and tricks executed with fluidity. In the final he dominated the American Cash Berzolla to claim an honorary victory in an exhibition event which would certainly deserve a more official status with a larger field of competitors in the future.
