INFO: CHOOSE YOUR GEAR TO START WING FOILING !!!

At GONG, we are accustomed to offering our customers a wide range of products to satisfy a maximum of people according to their discipline and personal skill level. Here, we will discuss the adequate Wing equipment to start this sport with ease.

The wing

For you beginners, we recommend a 5m2. This is the most versatile size. You will have enough power to fly in mild conditions, and a wingspan that remains reasonable.

In our wings range, the Wing Plus is what you’ll need. Smooth, progressive and stable, it is a light Wing that is easy to handle without getting your arms ripped off. Clearly its role is to facilitate your first year of Wing flying. Light, easy, it has all the qualities to bring you up to a good level.

Then you will build a Quiver to exploit all the wind forces. Don’t forget that the Wing is in full development. You will have no difficulty in selling parts of your Quiver to make it run and modernize it.

The board

In Wing we can afford to start out with relatively shorter Boards, less than 7 feet, but still maintaining a maximum of comfort thanks to the volume so you don’t have a hard time during your first sessions and progress quickly.

Your first Board must be generous in volume, floats easily and be wide. We recommend at least your weight plus 20 to determine the necessary volume.

Example: 85kg + 20 = 105L minimum to start off right. So a 6’3 Zuma, or even a 6’6.

On the other hand, if you have no experience in Board sports, especially in Foil, or if you want to be as comfortable as possible, it is strongly recommended that you add 50 to your weight to determine the volume you will need to learn and progress. Example: 85kg + 50 = 135L minimum to start well. So the 6’9 Zuma of 140L will be perfect, or a 5’5 inflatable HIPE with 145L.

As you progress, you will want a shorter and livelier Board. But at the beginning this liveliness will rhyme with repeated falls.

The foil

Concerning the Foil, you need large surface Wings. Without excess, but a size XL is a standard.

You will get the full potential of the Wing on a Board with a Foil installed. On the other hand, you may want to discover this sport otherwise, if you have little or no experience on a Foil. That’s why, at GONG, we offer you a wide range of Foils for the Wing, especially made to start off in the best conditions.

GONG Wingfoil Beginner

The Wing Foiling is one of the simplest supports to get started off on with a Foil. And with our Foil Wing Beginner set up it’s even easier. With its very generous Front Wing, you will fly without having to go fast. A few knots of speed and it will lift off. And since this Front Wing is thick, it tolerates a lot of mistakes. It will accept without flinching to fly at very low speeds. This means a pressure free start.

It is ideal to progress smoothly with its two mast lengths. It will fly with great stability, even at lower speeds.

This Foil is offered with a 65cm mast and an 80cm Mast. The 65cm Mast will facilitate your learning the Foil during your first sessions. On the other hand, as soon as you’re flying consistently, it is ideal to switch to the 80cm Mast.

The long Mast length is a real plus in every respect. Except in your first sessions, as soon as you start flying you will prefer a long Mast. The ideal is a 100cm Monobloc Mast. You have more margin, more tolerance, more glide, more angle. It’s great.

GONG Wingfoil Allvator Rise alu

It is the Foil for beginners, but also for progression.

When flat on the water, you get a bit of speed, you pump the Wing twice and you’ll fly. The Foil Rise is smoothly locked in at 10 knots, it goes through all the soft spots and you’ll have serious upwind.  But if you tuck it in, it will go up to 20 knots, and always smoothly.

In Surfing, it is ultra simple, soft and easy to handle. Really easy to engage, hard to disengage, it’s a model of tolerance based on proven templates in the world of military aviation.

When pumping, you’l have lift. It is not a fast Foil, but our numerous videos testify to its qualities. We will pump easily, more with the legs than with the cardio. And above all without error, because the most expensive errors when pumping are the mistakes.

This is what will guide you to take the plunge and start discovering this sport.
