HOW TO : turtle yourself ninja ;-)

Sometimes trying to get over the Bar is a nightmare. So when standing, let’s not even go there. Yes, it sucks……The SUPesque philosophy demands that we get hit in the face with a ton of water and only rowing standing up, which is a form of imposed punishment that re-establishes the balance with Surfers on less volume. So in the case in which you take it upon yourself to get drawn across the racks, the Turtle can save you. Here’s some helpful hints : – Keep your Paddle in your high handoff the Shaft, about 10/15 cm from the Handle. – Grab your Board in the upper tiers to sink it. Very high. – Grab the Board with your high hand (Paddle included) at the nose in a spot in which you can hold both of them together. – Don’t try and grip the rail with the hit hand, but more as if you were using the handle as a hook to keep the nose under control, use the low hand for the true grip. – Sink as deep as you can to create the anchor. – Turn it over as late as possible, if not you will be popping up in the churn and foam. – Don’t think of it as diving the nose under the wave, but more as if you were letting the churning water pass over you. – If it pulls heavily release and let it go. There is a risk of breaking the Board. – Don’t let the Boards Tail get caught up in the water and get pulled backwards, you risk breaking the Board. – Better to fail the Turtle than have your Board get thrown about on everybody’s heads or risk breaking your Leash. – Think of breath control. Sometimes you’ll be link Turtles and you need to stay oxygenated. – Get back on the Board as quick as possible, 5/10 cm further back than normal so you don’t sink in the white water where there is less lift. – Paddle quick : 10cm earned, is 10cm won. It’s a psychological game to get passed the bar. Never give up, and breath deeply and profoundly. – If the churning foam is bigger than the man standing in front of it, the Turtle will rebel. There is a possibility that if you pulling to hard on the hull with the Paddle that you can dent it. No pain no gain…. Learn to Paddle while holding the Paddle with three fingers on the handle so you can row the second you’re back on the Board for you will not have time to slip it under your body. You must dip the handle into the waters o that the surface replaces the fingers that hold it and lifts the blade over the water. It’s the only real way to paddle with the Paddle in your hand. With all this you got something to think about. If done right you’ll be on the peak with serious volume.
