HOW TO : THE SUP'S ROW EFFECT !!!

For efficient rowing you need to play with the Row. When you row off one side of the Stand Up Paddle Board, it will turn towards the other direction. This is called the Row. This logical and natural tendency can become really annoying if it is poorly mastered. The Boards Shape has a big influence on this : – The Shorter the Board the more Row she’ll have because the length puts the Board in the axis by creating resistance to flat rotation. – The larger the Wide Point the more Row you’ll have because it creates a central pivot point and diminishes the rapport of Length/Width. This rapport completely conditions the Row. – The more Rocker you have, the more Row as well because it creates a vertical pivot point the frees up the ends and decreases the resistance to rotation at the nose/tail. – The more volume the Board has the more Row because the Board is less underwater which creates less resistance to the rotational effort. – The bigger the tail, the less Row you’ll have because the more the line of outline between the medium point and the back is parallel to the median axis, the stronger the resistance to rotation. – The higher the rail plan edge, the more greater the Row is because it reduces the resistance to the rotational force. – It is self evident that the deep the Fins are the less Row you will have. – Using a Paddle that is to long heavily augments the Row effect. – The combination of all these parameters need to be very precise to obtain a good Shape. At the same time, a Surfer needs to seriously take into account these parameters before buying a SUP because the Row can be a point of frustration, and one needs to know that all the things that diminish the Row also has a bad effect on the maneuverability of the Board. So one must orient themselves towards a subtle blend of all these factors that will give them what they are looking for. So you must, above all, get yourself real advice from experienced Shapers in the field of SUP because these parameters are of no concern to Surfboard Shapers. The Paddling Technique itself has a considerable affect on the Row. One must arrive at a point of completely disassociating the top part of the body, that produces an asymmetric rowing effort, and the bottom half of the body that transmits this effort to the Board. In this way we can really manage to do some hard rowing off one side without the Board changing directions after two paddle swipes. The pelvis must correct the rotation effort. Any questions ?
