HOW TO : choose your board !!!

How to choose your Board? – The Length : It will facilitate paddling while augmenting the glide and inertia in surfing. Under 9′, because begging will be more complex as the Board will turn at the slights swipe of the Paddle and the balance is quite hard for the novice.
The big questions are : Do you have the space and vehicle for transporting and storing the Board? A 9′ will fit into anything, a 7′ in a Polo, and a 12′ needs a garage and roof racks.
You want to Surf mellow or radical? Shorter than a 9′ the Boards are super agile while bigger than a 10′ they’re super mellow.
A longer Board, 11′ and higher, also make the turn radius larger or the need to stall it in higher turns.
This demands a technique that is specific, that one learns over time, but offers an incomparable slide. Longer means taking off earlier and with less paddling effort once the Boards off. So it’s fundamental to keep this length while you’re learning.
A shorter Board means tighter turns, and being able to break them for a trashy style. It’s another way to Surf, really ‘in the pocket’ of the wave, going after the energy so you can burn it off better.
With skills, length is not much a problem, even if it can slow you down in the turns. It brings stability and allows one to ride waves, no matter their size, which a small Board won’t allow because they are specific to their discipline.
The very small Boards, called ShortSUP, have a very slow paddle speed. The balance when paddling is precarious because you have to manage the stability (front/back) on top of port/starboard. It’s what’s called 3D balance. But if you get he right volume and width, you can envision riding this type of Board without having to be a champion. They’re super reactive, fun, high performance, and transportable. Advisor : Patrice Guénolé et GONG Surfboards. Source : GONG SUP Staff, we share that we know.
