Romain is equipped with an Allvator foil with a Front Wing XL. When wake Foiling, he always feels like he’s running out of speed once he lets go of the tow rope. Here is L’Ours answer:
“Hello,
This is very much related to the displacement of your boat : “Displacement is a measure of the mass of liquid displaced by the submerged part of a vessel in different loading situations. Displacement varies with draught” according to Wikipedia.
The more your boat moves out of the water, the more consistent the wave is and therefore more buoyant.
L’Ours in wake foil.
Beyond this parameter of water volume, there is also:
1/ Its shape:
Your boat will create a wave more or less high, more or less hollow etc… Your Foil likes to fly in a precise attitude, at a precise speed, etc… To adapt both and have fun, you can either perfectly match the right speed of your boat to that of your Foil and make it fly in an infinite diagonal called trim line; or make your Foil fly in a different way so that the result is optimal in this case too.
For example, when you go down the wave, you gain speed. You push in the bottom and you have enough accumulated energy to go up the wave. Once at the top, you rotate before you stop and start again. It’s an S-shaped path below and above the trim line that creates the balance between the speed at which your boat makes a good wave and the speed at which your Foil likes to fly.
The discriminating factor in all of this is your technique for adapting and creating this balance of speeds.
2/ Its area of operation:
On a boat like yours, you will move little water and it will quickly glide, moving almost no water. The speed range that makes a nice wave is thin. And worse than that, the shoulder length of the wave is also narrow. And the worst of the worst is that the nice area is very close to the outboard engine: DANGER +++
A good solution on these boats is often not to exploit the first wave and load the boat to the maximum to create a very large wave on the second wave. Not being stuck by the engine anymore, you double your zone of evolution.
Thank you.”
