“Hello, The TT has two benefits in this case: – you don’t need to switch stance. – It’s indestructible. That’s it. For everything else a Matata type Surfboard is better : – The Fins don’t slide out. – The Volume helps enormously, and insures your security. – Incomparable heading. – The stance is the same for Surf and Windsurf. – There is no need to over size the Kite. There are two arguments I need to insist upon: 1/ Safety: With a Surfboard, you have Volume. So you can get back to shore no matter what happens. Lay out and start paddling….
And you have no need to over-Kite, as a general rule we use 2m2 less than when on a TT. Which signifies on land and in all dangerous situations, you have 2m2 less for you to crash.
2m2 is the equivalent of 10 its of wind less in your Kite. I can assure you that if the wind mounts suddenly, you will love having 2m2 less!!! 2/ Simplicity: Yes, must switch stance. But in the beginning, in any case, you will have to stop to turn, or sink. All you need to do is switch the Board by hand and get going again.
The exchange will be that the Surfboard will avoid you having to walk with the wind in your face to get back. She will force you to cap immediately, go fast, with a solid hold, and get over the mush with zero efforts etc, etc, etc… I did 10 years of hardcore TTing : It’s a great method if you want to be over-powered (kite), get launched into space, splat land, throw Kiteloops and handle passes.
