“A butter slicer…”
“Gear: Ypra LS, HM 85 Mast and Fluid H Pro 38. 4.5 Neutra 2023 (between my 3.5 and 4.5, I also think that a 4 would be nice to have for certain sessions…). Wind: 18/26 knots.
In these conditions, the Ypra S takes off easily, even with the Fluid 38. I don’t see any difference compared to my 42 in this phase. Once in flight, the quality of the glide is simply irreproachable… As good as it gets. Total silence, and the quality of the HM Mast lets you think that you are on a highway, launched at 180 km/h with nothing moving. This means the whole set just feels great in flight. I cross the chop and the swell as if the surface was totally flat… Just impressive, that’s all.The Ypra LS combined with the Fluid 38 is a combo that I love.
16 seconds of period, from hip to head high waves, the front wing turns out to be very reactive, and the stab never wants to take me out during strong accelerations, so I can link the turns and hit the whitewater serenely. Again, the Ypra LS amazes me with its versatility, it goes fast, very fast, and when I’m back at the peak I can surf as if I had a surf front wing. Clearly it’s not a beginner’s front wing… You have to be relatively experienced I think. I find that it does not forgive the very low speed, so you have to be precise and maintain the speed, but it is done without even thinking when you are used to it.
It is a pure wing foiling front wing in my opinion.
I find that the curves are very healthy, even if you feel at times that it really wants to play its role of rail and catch. It still turns very well with a short radius. You cannot pump it to go back to the peak for example in surf foiling, at least not in this size for my size. The glide is very present with the speed, but can very quickly be canceled if you lose speed… I regularly reached a 24 knots top speed in total comfort.
PS : to make a choice between a Fluid H, a Veloce H or a Ypra S, your spot, the type of practice, will make you choose the one or the other. On a lake for example, with a decent wind, I would go without hesitation towards the Ypra. On the ocean, with a lot of chop but not many waves, maybe a Veloce H. On the ocean with swell and waves, a Fluid H, if I’m not looking for speed too much. And a Ypra S, if I’m looking to surf and go very fast comfortably, when I want to overtake my friends. That’s roughly how I see things. When you also practice in the waves but without a Wing, for me the Ypra S has no point, it is a 100% wing foiling front wing for me.”
