François reflects on his first surf foiling session with the Ypra LS associated with the HM 70 cm mast.

“I should say this was my first session with my new HM 70 mast and this Ypra S so it’s just a first impression. Waves were between 50 and 80, 120cm on the bigger sets, long soft sections and others with power. I had the same setting as with my MH Fluid.
Clearly, I should have set my mast back a bit, because the front wing has more lift as soon as it takes off. Luckily this extra lift isn’t felt on the front leg, it only had a tendency to pitch up! The Ypra S has the glide of a classic Ypra, very good. In terms of speed, it’s hard to judge on surf foiling gear, but I’m not going slower than with the Fluid H, that’s for sure. At the beginning of the session, I had very (too) long sections of flat, soft waves that didn’t carry at all, plus a light headwind… Well, for a 1000cm and my 86 kg (or even 87), I can’t believe how good the lift is as long as you read the wave properly… Great! The lift is great and it pumps really well as long as you’re on your line.
To pump in the distance or even connect 50m I think it’s a different story with this 1000, I would even say impossible for my size… Clearly, the front wing is not made for that, you can feel it right away.
In handling, I find it very good, precise, and you put it where you want! I would say between a Veloce and a Fluid. In a round house cutback for example, you feel that it does wrap turns like the Fluid, it would be closer to the Veloce but with the ease of the Fluid. Still with me ?? hehe
In wing foiling it’s going to be great for sure. In surf foiling, I can’t really say for the moment, to be confirmed and compared to my current Fluid MH.
Can’t wait to test the 1200 Ypra XLS, I feel it’s going to be the perfect balance. For the HM 70 mast…. What a treat ! As RIGID in torsion as a mast can be, and the ocean feels HARD under the feet when you ride, and when you pump …. ultra precise mama-miaaaaa! For my size, it’s really what I need, that’s for sure!
See you for more sessions.”
