- Wing
The Veloce HDW in sizes L and XL tested by Francisco in real life conditions.
Wing foiler: Martin, GONG staff, on his Cruzader Point LW FSP Pro, Droid SP Aramid CZ, HM mast, Veloce HDW front wing and Veloce stab.
Take-off with the Veloce HDW
“Testing the GONG Veloce HDW V3 (1050 and 1200) in real conditions
Wind: 12 knots with 15 knots gusts
Choppy sea + half meter swell
Sideshore wind
Take off:
Surprised how easy they take off for their size and aspect ratio.
Even in a slightly choppy sea, both wings rise without taking too much effort.
You don't need perfect traction or strong wind to get out of the water: with some wing pressure and good technique, you come on foil progressively and controlled.”
Speed, glide and maneuverability
“Speed and glide:
This is where they shine. The glide sensation is addictive.
Both maintain a high cruise speed with zero effort.
The 1200 stands out for a practically eternal glide: once up, you can travel long distances connecting bumps without barely touching the wing.
The 1050, slightly smaller, offers an extra reactivity point without losing that glide character.”
Downwind in small waves:
With a half meter swell, both wings go like on rails.
It's very easy to read the wave, position yourself well and let the foil do the work.
Especially the 1200 seems designed for these kinds of conditions: it keeps flying with little input and connects from one wave to another almost alone.
Maneuverability and turns:
Here's to be honest: it's not their strong point.
The high aspect ratio of the wing makes tight turns more technical. Turns have to be long, smooth and well-prepared.
It's not a foil for aggressive carving, it's for long, controlled lines. Whether you come from smaller front wings or surf type, the change is noticeable.”
In conclusion
“Two wings designed for riders seeking efficiency, glide and constant connection.
The Veloce 1050 is ideal if you want an entry into the world of pure glide, but with a little more handleability.
The 1200 is for those who want to fly far, effortlessly and for a long time, even though it requires more space in turns.
Thank you GONG Galaxy for these magnificent toys.
We'll keep testing and informing!!”
