Identify the wing foil board to go big in Freestyle or Surf-Freestyle!

The choice between a Stunt and a Hyperloop can be summed up simply:

  • Surf-Freestyle: Stunt
  • Pure Freestyle: Hyperloop

The difference between these two shapes is mainly seen in their tails. Explanation 👇

Two generous outlines with distinct tails

The outlines of the Stunt and Hyperloop follow the same objectives with generous lines that optimize trick landings and boost repop. However, following those outlines to the tail reveals clearly different options: A wide square tail for the Hyperloop and a round tail for the Stunt.

Patrice Guénolé, GONG founder and shaper of the Stunt and Hyperloop:

“The Hyperloop’s tail is very wide to repop, take off instantly, re-launch, and be ultra stable at rest and on landings. That’s what makes it a great board in many situations, even beyond Freestyle.

The Stunt’s tail is rounder and more tapered to reduce touchdowns during carves and reduce suction on long touchdowns while surfing, for example. This allows great performance in surf without being as narrow as the Lethal, which is less forgiving for landing tricks.”

Compactness and repop in Freestyle

Compactness and repop performance are key assets to execute the most spectacular Freestyle moves. The Stunt and Hyperloop are compact boards with minimal inertia, which favors all kinds of rotations, with the ability to rebound into the next trick in a flash. Their repop is clearly above all other boards in the range.

In that regard, the wide square tail gives an extra boost to the Hyperloop, as perfectly illustrated by our team rider Benjamin in these sequences of tricks. A pure freestyle board with which Benjamin recently made a statement by winning the first victory of his young career on the World Tour!

Conclusion: Stunt or Hyperloop?

While a Stunt FSP Pro offers a Surf-Freestyle-oriented shape, the Hyperloop delivers an uncompromising shape for freestylers aiming for bold and extreme tricks.

  • If you ride on flat water, with a foil setup mounted on springs to go high and hard, the Hyperloop’s shape is made for you. It’s a board that just wants to fly and that boosts your trick conversion rate. It’s ultra motivating—like the sensations modern wing foil tricks give, which are becoming more and more accessible.
  • If you want to mix wave riding and aggressive tricks, the Stunt, halfway between a Lethal and a Hyperloop, is the obvious choice to land maximum tricks while allowing hard rail engagement in the surf.
