FEEDBACK: HIPE 5’1

Switching from a rigid board to an inflatable board may seem like a set back for someone who has always sailed on rigid boards, yet the transition to inflatable does not limit your sensations on the water as we can read in Vincent’s testimony on our Facebook.

“Hi everyone. I’ve always been able to tell when things are not going in the right direction, and people were able to remind me here, but when things are going well, you have to say it too. So as an amateur shaper, and 300% in favor of rigid boards, I have reluctantly ordered a HIPE 5’1 for my 83kgs for a trip to some alpine spots, far from my Reunionese reefs.
Again I have to note the professionalism shown by GONG after I messed up with my delivery information… Just a word, congratulations to the guys and girls, you saved the day !!For the board, I would have opted for the “Pro” version, but the deadlines did not match. About the overall packaging I was a little stunned by the quality of the whole thing (only downside, the weight of the bag, big problem on the plane to respect the 23 kg maximum considering all the extra stuff I was carrying).
I found the board ultra easy, very pleasant and terribly efficient.
The rigidity is exemplary and the feedback in your legs very clear for an inflatable board. Jumping, speed, carving, etc, it all went great from 10 knots to almost 30 knots in 6m and 3.6m. I also really liked the significant rebound in the landing of jumps which allows you to really go straight back to flying. Afterwards it is true that it is perhaps a bit less effective in low range to take off with the feeling of sticking to the water, but I was in fresh water for the 1st time, so this may play a role (less water density)… I don’t know. My only complaint about this 5’1, for me, was the excessive width for maneuvers and tricks, but there is the HIPE Pro model which corrects that. And my choice of foil for the destination… I had taken my lagoon foil, Curve L with the monobloc carbon V1 mast and Fast 40 stab… I should have taken another foil to shift up a gear, but I think I did reach some personal top speed records nonetheless with this Curve from another time (and some huge wipe-outs too). So if, like me, you’re a bit stubborn with a lot of certainties, don’t hesitate too much, only fools don’t change their minds.
Note: the board is given for 85 liters, I am 82/83kgs, the foil must be around the 4kgs, the board at least 6 kgs, the wetsuit, the wing… in short, I was surprised to still be positive on the water when I was stationary, again over fresh water.”
