The 2023 range of our wings is currently touring among our GONG ambassadors. For this first step of the Wing Tour 2023 for the Droid, it was Fred who was able to have a go with it on his inland spot of the Hautes-Alpes.

“Test condition: 85kg rider (used to Neutra v2) Very light thermal wind (7m would have been more suitable for my size), Lac de Serre Ponçon.
It feels powerful
You can see straight after rigging that the tensions are higher on this wing ?. New mini-battens in fiber plus 2 battens on the tips that you can leave on the wing when stored in its bag. Only two handles this year including a large one at the back. A central Z shaped central strut. The rest, bag, materials, nothing to say, it’s top quality. Note the absence of windows.
It’s super compact
On land and on the water: it’s super light and stable, my 7-year-old son can hold it with 2 fingers horizontally. Clearly this 5.5 must have the wingspan of a 4 Neutra. On the water, I need to adapt to a new pumping technique but it is very direct. Once in flight, I must say that having two 2 handles is the best. Less to think about, it is well placed and well positioned. You can slide the back hand slightly to more or less sheet in, plus it’s super comfortable.
The shape of the Z-shaped central strut brings enormous rigidity to the whole and the rear hand is placed more “into” the wing, which I think brings a real plus.
Tacks, jibes, duck jibes, double ducks are formalities. This Droid turns turns turns … This is probably also due to the battens at the tips of the wing which bring a certain inertia but also and above all thanks to its extraordinary compactness.
My 7 year old son, 135cm, does not touch the ground with the tips of the Wing ? and I, 187cm, still have a 70cm margin before touching the water.
To conclude, it is rigid, very nervous, and compact, really good.
All the little details brought to the 2023 range are top notch.
Note that the conditions being really too light, I was not able to test the top speed or its jumping and rotation capabilities.”
