(Switched stance) tail kick

Still in a switched stance when exiting a wave or after a jibe? What about making the most of this situation by throwing a tail kick on the first bump that rises in front of you? It’s super stylish and relatively accessible so there’s absolutely no reason to miss out on this opportunity 😉

Wing foiler : Malo, GONG team rider, on a Lemon FSP Pro, Neutra and Fluid H Pro set-up.

To perform this trick, all you have to do is untwist your upper and lower body while in the air. This movement should come quite naturally as it basically consists in resuming your natural stance, with the notable difference that the tail of your board now leads the way… So you should quickly go back to your starting position, but not completely, because landing with a wider angle to the wind than at takeoff will be easier to manage in a switched stance. One of the difficulties is to pop out of the water in a switched stance. Imagine doing an ollie in skateboarding on your bad foot (that is if you can imagine doing it on your best foot to begin with ?). Fortunately, in foiling you are less dependent on your legs for your take-off. Use your foil by sinking it just in front of the bump before aiming for the air. Speed will do the rest. No need to take off very high to try this maneuver. You just have to take care of the landing. Also note that we can’t talk about a legit kick tail if it’s missing… a kick! Meaning you should extend your back leg the way Jean-Claude Van Damme does on screen 😉
