The forecasts announce good conditions and here you are now on the beach preparing your gear to go ride. The first thing to do is not to rush it and to secure your gear because any rushing can cost you.

First of all, it is important to know the regulations in force on the spot. Some spots have well-defined areas for the practice of our sports so that each practitioner prepares his equipment without disturbing other beach users, and avoid accidents due to unsafe equipment. So the first reflex when arriving on the beach is to make sure that you keep your equipment away from any hazard that could be a source of danger. Also make sure that there are no debris or seashells that could damage your board and wing once you’re on the beach.

Your wing is the most fragile piece of your gear, so you should secure it first.

  • Place your board at 90 ° to the wind with the foil downwind.
  • The mast is therefore in the axis of the wind.
  • Attach your wing to the fuselage using your hand leash.

This way, the force exerted on your wing and your board by the wind will naturally push the foil into the sand like a plow. This way you prevent the risk of your foil tipping over in your wing following a gust of wind. This technique is of course only valid for sandy beaches.

Then pay attention to the tide. Depending on the tidal coefficient, the water can rise very quickly, and a moment of inattention is enough for your gear to be washed away.

In the end, it is important to arrive on the spot knowing the forecast to face possible changes in wind direction and avoid having to run after your gear.
