Nose ride on a surf foil

The most iconic move in longboarding can also be part of a surf foiler’s bag of tricks.
Nose rides on a surf foiling board is something that gets relatively common among the best riders, whether it’s a cheater five or a clear hang five. What’s not that common is doing it with a crossed step as Malo does here. Even if on a Matata 3’11, the path to the nose of the board is quite short, the transfer of your weight is no less delicate. To complicate things even more, he does it in the worst possible part of the wave : the whitewater.

Wing foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, on a Matata FSP Pro, HM 70 mast and Pro Fluid H foil.
To succeed in this sequence, Malo arrives on this section with a high and upward trajectory, enough speed to create lift, while being high on the mast. As with any nose ride, placement is everything. This allows him for a short time to transfer all his weight to the front leg and gently place his back foot on the nose of his Matata.
As soon as he feels the nose of his board wants to go down, he immediately repositions his stance by placing his back foot back in its natural position, and putting his weight back on his back leg. The foil keeps flying perfectly.
