Step into the iconic world of surfing and its sensations with our tips for starting off in the best conditions!

Starting to surf is one of the few things you'll never regret, so if it's your dream, follow your instincts without hesitation! First of all, surfing is one of the most accessible board sports when tried in appropriate conditions. Secondly, the experience is simply unique. You'll feel the thrill from your very first sessions, and the pure joy of being in the water in stunning environments is a feeling that will stay with you forever.

Here are some tips to help you get started in the best possible way.

Take lessons

Waves and the ocean can be unpredictable, especially for beginners. A qualified instructor will teach you how to understand the conditions and develop the right safety reflexes. They'll provide the technical foundations, and their expert eye will spot what you need to improve. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to make friends. Learning to surf alone in the middle of nowhere may sound rock’n’roll, but it's probably a bit too much for a beginner!

Learn the rules

Like driving they protect you form risks and also save you from locking horns with grumpy surfers. It might seem to you surprising or even dislikable, but there are a multitude of do-s and don’ts in surfing. Knowing them is not an option and it will insure that you have a great time spent in the water.

Choose an EASY Board

A Board that is to radical will be instable as much when paddling as when surfing. Do not be ashamed to have a big Board. It is tempting but wrong to show off with a sweet looking short Board. Only volume will help you progress.

Surf small waves

Start with small baby waves. That is where you are going to discover their energy and also learn how to use it. Small waves demand precision, which will help you progress faster than in the foamy churning waves which just bounce you around. 1m is too big, In 30 cm you will be surfing 10 times more and without major risks.

Do not Surf alone

In your beginning sessions go out with your friends or you great Aunt. The peak is not a place for babbling, and it is often that there is only shared silence. But having friends close is reassuring and will bring warmth to your first experiences.

Speak with more experienced Surfers

Get involved in humble conversation in the parking lot so you can get to know the spot better or get to know better the rules that need to be respected in the water. Don’t use Surfer slang, it’s ridiculous. Be yourself, well, assuming you’re a good person.

And most importantly: smile a lot, because the Surf is rare and it wards off grumpy locals.
