Drop knee turn

Don’t forget the drop knee turns, it’s super easy on a Stand Up Paddle!!!

You have time, inertia and the paddle. First try the straight line position: backside paddle and back knees on the board, then try to turn.

For a good drop knee turn, you want a sudden shift in the distribution of your weight from the front foot to the back foot to accelerate the curve at a specific point. This lift brought to the board will also temporarily erase its cumbersome length. You could call it a stall.

The kneeling position, with only one knee down, resembles a lunge in fitness. The usefulness is to be able to put the back foot very far back while keeping the pelvis very mobile from front to back.

We can therefore stall violently and send the body weight forward immediately. Well executed it gives a very fluid and aesthetic move.

The paddle is obviously an element that helps a lot by placing it in the curve to balance and seek a pivot point.
