Here are all our tips for choosing the wing that will help you learn, progress, or perform like a pro in wing foiling!

Since the rise of this incredible sport just a few seasons ago, various practices and different wing models have emerged. With the right equipment, you can now aim for outstanding performances in your favorite discipline. You can also seek versatility, which is one of the beauties of wing foiling, blending many magical aspects of different gliding sports. Follow the guide!

Wingfoilers: Julien, Jules and Mélissa, GONG team rider and staff, with a Pulse DP, SuperPower DP, Plus Perf Series and Mint FSP 2X, Cruzader Point FSP Pro and Lemon FSP 2X boards.

Beginner or experienced rider?

  •  Beginner: The Plus wing is what you need. Smooth, progressive, and stable, it’s a lightweight wing that’s easy to handle without pulling your arms off.
  • Experienced: You have the choice between different programs: the SuperPower will give you the traction you’ve been dreaming of, the Pulse will offer mind-blowing top speeds and stability, while the Droïd will be unbeatable in Surf-Freestyle, and the Neutra will be the queen in wave riding sessions.

Choose according to your program:

Focus on the program: Freeride, Lightwind, Race, Freestyle, and Waveriding.

The program for which your wing is designed should be your primary selection criterion. All the popular disciplines among wing foilers are covered by our extensive range of wings, which you can explore below.

This range is divided into two collections: the Perf Series wings and the Team Series wings.

What are the differences between a Perf Series wing and a Team Series wing?

The Perf Series wings are our standard wings designed for the riding styles mentioned above. They are primarily distinguished from the Team Series wings by their classic Dacron construction. On the other hand, the Team Series wings are used by our Pro Team and the most demanding riders. These wings benefit from more frequent updates in shape, assembly, technology, and equipment, all validated by our top-level riders (our team currently includes 5 wing foiling World Champions across various disciplines).

The Team Series wings are highly appreciated by advanced riders because thay are at the forefront of shape innovations and are constructed with cutting-edge materials like UPE Aramid or UPE Aramid X. These materials provide increased rigidity, lightness, and durability.

Wingfoiler: Bastien, GONG team rider, with a HIPE Stunt, Droid UPE Aramid, HM85 mast, Ypra Surf-Freestyle and Freestyle stab.

What’s your riding style in wing foiling?

The Plus wing: Allround!

  • Its role is to make your first year of wing foiling easier. It has no limits with its highly efficient shape, although not as specialized as the other wings of the range.
  • Lightweight, easy to handle, and powerful, it has all the qualities needed to help you progress to an advanced level.

The SuperPower DP wing: Full Power!

  • Is your local spot subject to fickle, irregular, and sluggish winds? This is THE unbeatable wing for light wind and heavier riders: with plenty of power to spare and furious acceleration thanks to its double profile, which stabilizes and optimizes glide.

The Pulse DP wing: Free-race attitude!

  • Outclass others in speed and upwind performance, handle gusts with ease, and launch into the air.
  • Its double profile allows for continuous acceleration at all points of sail. This is a wing that’s a joy to pilot, especially when locked into the harness.

The Droid wing: Surf-Freestyle machine!

  • Maximum compactness for linking turns, tricks, and rotations together.
  • Its torque provides valuable power to quickly relaunch in between two waves or after landing a trick.

The Neutra wing: ultimate Wave Riding!

  • Absolute smoothness with this 100% wave-riding wing: for surfing, jumps, and transitions.
  • It takes us back to the essence of what made us dream in the last century, now elevated for wing foiling perfection.

Wingfoiler: Mathieu, GONG team rider, with a Lemon FSP 2X, Neutra Perf Series, HM85 mast, Ypra Surf and Freestyle stab.

What size wing should you choose?

For beginners, we recommend a 5m² wing. It's the most versatile size. You'll have enough power to fly in moderate conditions, with a manageable wingspan.

Soon, you'll find that one wing isn't enough. You'll want to fly all the time, so you'll complement your 5m² with a larger wing.

We recommend a maximum gap of 2m² between your wings, ideally 1m². This is especially true for smaller sizes because when you go from 4m² to 2m² due to stronger winds, you're halving the surface area, even though the wind hasn’t doubled in strength. On the other hand, moving from 7m² to 5m² when the wind picks up feels smooth and proportional to the increased wind force.

Here is the recommended wind range for each wing:

Don't overestimate the power of wings. A rider weighing 85kg will need 15-20 knots with a 5m² wing to start flying at first. After about fifteen sessions, they’ll be able to fly in 15 knots with the same 5m² wing. If they’re athletic, they’ll pump hard and take off in 12 knots with a 5m², managing to glide through lulls down to 8 knots. All of this takes practice and time to master.

How to choose between textile handles, rigid handles, or a boom?

Thanks to our unique GFS system with modular handles, allowing you to mount textile handles, rigid handles, or a boom on your GONG wing, you can completely change the dynamics of your wing.

  • Textile Handles

Stiffer than those on the 2024 V1 wings, they provide a very smooth and more secure feel. You get less “pulled” by gusts, as the strut can better absorb gusty conditions. In case of a fall or impact, textile handles are much less aggressive than a boom. They have the added benefit of being lightweight and compact. We recommend beginners opt for textile handles to protect their board and their teeth ;) The same goes when trying your first backflips, and you end up lying on the strut!

  • Rigid Handles

They provide an ultra-direct feel, making the wing much more precise, taking your performance to another level. The responsiveness is impressive, and the wing seems capable of accelerating endlessly. You get a direct connection with the wing, reacting instantly to your inputs. On the flip side, the wing becomes more technically demanding to handle. Rigid handles are the perfect compromise between a boom and textile handles. They offer both power and forgiveness in the profile, with the added benefit of being less bulky than a boom.

  • The Boom (equivalent to a windsurfing wishbone)

The ultimate solution for stepping into the world of high performance. The boom absorbs a significant portion of the flexing forces exerted on the central strut, making the wing extremely stiff while maintaining tension and minimizing flutter. It locks the wing’s profile for maximum power gain. The boom’s extended grip area enhances the wing’s maneuverability, allowing you to freely adjust your hand position for better control. This setup opens up new possibilities in freestyle! Get ready to master back loop spins and backmob tricks!

Wingfoiler: Malo, GONG team rider, with a Stunt FSP Pro, Droid Perf Series mounted with a boom, a HM85 mast, Ypra Surf-Freestyle and Freestyle stab.

The boom is also the lightest system among our rigid handle options. By eliminating two bends, it reduces the weight by 200g—a difference you’ll notice as soon as you handle a wing equipped with a boom. You gain across the board: lighter weight, improved comfort during navigation, and enhanced precision.

The front elbows of both the rigid handle and boom are ergonomically angled to relieve strain during long rides, offering a pistol-grip style that’s perfect for downwind/free-fly and surfing.

This setup allows you to maintain a base level of power, which you can fine-tune as needed, while eliminating potential flapping that could slow you down. It’s extremely practical when used skillfully.

Thus, handles and the boom are not just different gripping styles; they are performance elements you can adjust with GONG! This makes the wing’s profile even more responsive to your needs and desires.

Good morning,
I am a beginner. I am interested in your beginner pack. I prefer a rigid board. I live near the sea and in the windy wind is between 6 and not more that 15-20 km/h. Moreover, the sea, in windy days, has waves of 30-50 cm. My weigth is below 80 kg. I tried a board of 155 liters in flat water and I though that it should be instable in choppy waves.
I read (quite) of all pages, but I cannot take a decision: is better a great board I think (or not ?)
I read that you suggest Lance for rough sea.
I think the wing could be the maximum, 7 m2, but is it heavy and gives problems on waves before flying?
thank you
