Frontside 360 Spin

The Frontside 360 Spin is a variant of the Frontside 360. The movement is the same with the only difference that you will change your hand position instead of rotating the wing. Now that you know what it is, let’s see how to make it happen.

Speeding up

First, you need speed. You will therefore sheet in a bit to speed up. Once you have the speed you need, keep this pace. In fact, if you launch your jump into the wind, you will go higher but less far. On the other hand, if you send your jump bearing off, you won’t go as high but further because you will gain more speed in the air.

The landing will therefore be a little harder to stick because the foil will tend to fly up directly. So it’s best to start learning this tricks by launching towards the wind, you will have more time in the air to understand the movement. Now that you have the right angle to attack, you’re going to choose a section to do your pop on. This section can be a wave, a bump, or just a gust. As soon as you have arrived on the section, sink the foil then pop to jump. At this point you should start to take off.

The rotation

Now that you’re in the air, do as if you’re doing a normal Frontside 360. Therefore push in your back foot to engage the rotation of the board while keeping the wing a little behind you. After you’ve pushed in your back foot until you’ve done most of the spin of the board in the air, you’re not going to pass your wing.

Indeed, you will have to bring the wing above you in an umbrella position so that you can switch your hands. To do this, you will let go of your back hand. Once it’s released, find the handle where your front hand is. For more comfort during the maneuver, you can grab the handle supine. By doing this you will end up with the arm the right way round and you will not have to bend it. Now you should end up with both hands on the same handle and not far from landing time. You can therefore stay a little in this position until the foil hits the water. As soon as you touch the water, let go of your front hand and cushion the landing well. Indeed, the reception can be a bit violent because you will not have the power of the wing to sustain you.

Change of hands

Once you’ve landed, complete your change of hands. You will therefore take the front handle in the right direction with the hand you released. As soon as you have grabbed it, let go of the rear hand located on the front handle to go and find the rear handle with it. If all went well, you should have made your change of hands and are in position to take off again. You will therefore only have to pump your wing and your foil and go for another!

Here you now know how to do a Frontside 360 Spin.
