Programme

The carbon Tail Wing that frees up the foil’s glide in downwind, wing foiling and lowkite, with low front foot pressure and enough support to stay in control through slower phases.

Overview

The Veloce DW V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is designed to free up the foil’s glide in downwind while keeping the support needed for early take-offs, linking bumps and controlling changes of line.

Its 12.0 aspect ratio dramatically reduces drag and lets the foil retain its energy between pressure phases, descents and pulls. The foil accelerates naturally, holds a high average speed and keeps moving without any feeling of drag from the rear.

Its balance deliberately puts very little load on the front foot. The foil naturally follows the slope of the bumps without lifting the board’s nose excessively, which reduces corrections and makes long lines feel smoother.

Its medium-thickness, heavily cambered profile keeps solid support at low speed. It makes take-offs, transitions, bump changes and speed build-up more secure without holding back the Front Wing’s acceleration.

Its very elongated outline frees up yaw and naturally settles the rail-to-rail. The area retained through the centre provides clear, readable support at the core, around which the foil still rolls easily into carves and changes of direction.

Its Lower architecture positions the Tail Wing below the Shim Tail, further from the surface and away from the Front Wing’s turbulence. Its upper surface stays better fed, the tips are less sensitive to breaching, and the foil keeps more margin in messy water.

Built in CNC-machined monolithic T700 carbon, it holds its profile with great precision under heavy loads and transfers every input directly. This maximum stiffness unlocks the full potential of its shape in acceleration and speed build-up.

The reference setup with a Long Tail Shaft and 0° Shim Tail maximises stability, extends the lines and fully exploits its efficiency.

Paired with Veloce DW, Veloce XTR, Veloce FF or Veloce LW Front Wings, it creates a fast, natural foil that is especially efficient in downwind, freefly, wing foiling and lowkite in light wind. It can also free up a Sirus or a Fluid when the goal is to reduce front foot pressure and favour natural glide.

Shape
ASPECT RATIO 12.0

The Veloce DW features a high aspect ratio of 12.0 to significantly reduce drag and retain more energy between pressure points.

This span allows the foil to maintain a high average speed and cover more distance during glide phases. The foil accelerates naturally down the face of the bumps and holds its speed better when crossing a less supportive section.

Its ratio remains less extreme than the Veloce XTR's, however. The Veloce DW therefore keeps more support and control at low speed, making take-offs, transitions and speed build-up easier.

MEDIUM-THICKNESS CAMBERED PROFILE

The Veloce DW profile combines moderate relative thickness with pronounced camber to deliver an excellent balance of support, hydrodynamic stiffness and efficiency.

Its camber keeps the response present at low speed. The foil stays predictable through take-offs, bump transitions and phases where speed drops momentarily.

Its controlled thickness preserves high stiffness while limiting frontal area. The profile does not stall as the foil accelerates and continues to let the Front Wing develop its glide and speed.

SLENDER OUTLINE WITH CENTRED SURFACE

The outline is very elongated out towards the tips to reduce induced drag and free up yaw.

This wide span naturally smooths out rail-to-rail transitions, which stabilises long lines and prevents the foil from feeling too twitchy at high speed.

The surface area still remains concentrated through the centre, however. This central support keeps the pitch easy to read through transitions and speed build-up phases, while creating a natural pivot point that makes it easy to roll from one rail to the other.

The Veloce DW therefore combines the stability of a high-aspect Tail Wing with real ease in carving.

VERY SLIGHT NEGATIVE DIHEDRAL

The very slight negative dihedral keeps a geometry close to a flat wing in order to maximise efficiency and limit unnecessary flow deflection.

This geometry maintains excellent efficiency right out to the tips and directly contributes to the Tail Wing's low drag.

Its very limited amplitude avoids locking the foil in. The foil stays free through changes of line and keeps a fluid response despite the Veloce DW's substantial span.

THIN, ELONGATED TIPS

The tips are thin and elongated to reduce induced drag and cut the Tail Wing's peripheral resistance.

Their small surface area frees up yaw and makes line corrections smoother. The foil changes direction easily without losing the drive needed to hold a clean, readable carve.

This slenderness also reduces tip sensitivity to speed variations and complements the freer feel delivered by the Lower setup.

LOWER ARCHITECTURE

The Veloce DW is developed exclusively with a Lower architecture. The Tail Wing is positioned below the Shim Tail and works with a Lower Tail Shaft.

This position keeps the Tail Wing further from the surface when the foil is flying high. The tips have more margin before breaking the surface and are less sensitive to the onset of ventilation.

The Lower setup also frees up the upper surface of the Tail Wing and keeps it further away from the turbulence generated by the Front Wing. Flow stays cleaner, especially at high speed or in choppy water.

This architecture delivers a very natural glide feel, with almost no noticeable drag at the rear, while also making recovery easier when one of the tips gets close to the surface.

A fully customizable Foil

The Tail Wing is only one part of your foil's overall behavior. With the V3 Atmo system, you can also choose your Tail Shaft length and Tail Shim angle of incidence to achieve a setup perfectly matched to your skill level, riding style, and discipline.

The Tail Shaft primarily influences the foil's dynamic behavior. A Short model makes the foil more responsive and reduces turning radius. The Medium version delivers the reference balance. The Long version provides greater longitudinal stability, smooths pitch movements, and makes long, flowing lines easier to maintain.

The Tail Shim then allows you to fine-tune the foil's longitudinal balance. It adjusts front-foot pressure, pitch attitude, takeoff ease, pumping cadence, and the foil's overall character, without changing the intrinsic characteristics of your Tail Wing.

The recommended setup for each Tail Wing is always the best place to start. It delivers exactly the behavior intended by the designer. From this baseline, you can progressively tune your foil to your own preferences by changing only one parameter at a time.

This modular system naturally evolves with your progression. The same Tail Wing can continue to meet your needs for many seasons simply by combining different Tail Shaft lengths and Tail Shim angles.

You're not simply choosing a Tail Wing, you're choosing a tuning platform that allows your foil to evolve with your riding, delivering a setup tailored with precision to the way you ride.

A Platform that evolves with you

At GONG, a new generation of products doesn't make your existing equipment obsolete. Our priority is to improve performance while protecting your investment.

All V3 Atmo Tail Wings share a standard mounting interface that defines their reference angle of incidence. This allows them to be installed on both the new V3 Atmo Tail Shims and the previous compatible V3 shims, without requiring you to replace your entire rear foil assembly.

This continuity also means that the same Tail Wing can be used with either a V3 or Micro V3 Atmo fuselage. Simply select the Tail Shaft and Tail Shim designed for your fuselage diameter. You can upgrade your platform progressively, without rebuilding your entire quiver every time a new innovation is introduced.

This compatibility is at the heart of our development philosophy. Every new generation delivers greater performance, finer tuning possibilities, and increased precision, while remaining designed to preserve as much of your existing equipment as possible.

You're investing in a durable platform that evolves alongside your riding, not in a succession of incompatible systems that must be replaced entirely with every new product generation.

V3 Atmo, a new era

The V3 Atmo range marks a major leap forward in the design, manufacturing, and finishing of our foils. Reaching this new level of performance required far more than evolving the shapes. We rethought the entire process, from R&D to the finished product.

Every V3 Atmo shape is designed in 3D, digitally optimized, thoroughly tested by the GONG Team, and manufactured with an unprecedented level of precision. Profiles, thickness distribution, transitions, fillets, connection areas, and trailing edges have all been refined to reduce parasitic drag, improve water flow, and maximize efficiency.

Our new production facility enables manufacturing in an ultra-clean, highly controlled environment with a level of precision approaching that of the world's leading aerospace, motorsport, and high-performance composite industries. Optimized extraction of solvents and dust creates better working conditions while ensuring cleaner parts throughout every stage of production.

Tighter control over every step, from material handling, layup, machining, and molding to cooling and finishing, delivers an unprecedented level of accuracy, particularly on the trailing edges. This controlled refinement minimizes hydrodynamic disturbances, reduces noise, improves glide, and contributes to the overall performance gains of the V3 Atmo range.

But the real breakthrough isn't just producing a beautiful part, it's producing the same beautiful part every time. Every wing leaves the factory with the same profile, the same fit, the same trailing edge, the same stiffness, and the same ride feel. In foiling, even a few tenths of a millimeter can affect ventilation, stall behavior, noise, speed, and stability.

Cleaner. Finer. Stiffer. More consistent. The V3 Atmo range represents a new era in the way we manufacture performance. From the Perf Series to the Team Series and Pro Team Series, every construction benefits from this new level of industrial precision.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Veloce DW V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is aimed at advanced to expert riders who want to free up their foil's glide without stepping into the extreme demands of a downwind race Tail Wing.

It suits downwind riders looking for high average speed, long lines and a foil that naturally follows the slope of the bumps with very little front foot pressure.

It also speaks to wing foilers and lowkite riders using very high-glide Front Wings in light wind, in freefly or in sessions where energy retention matters more than rear-foot power.

Its high aspect ratio, low drag and Lower setup still require solid control of pitch and flight height. It remains more accessible than the Veloce XTR, but it is not designed as a progression Tail Wing.

 Why?

The Veloce DW was developed first and foremost for downwind. It lets the foil accelerate on every slope, hold speed between bumps and cross less supportive sections more easily.

Its low front foot pressure lets the board naturally follow the slope without lifting the nose too much. The rider no longer has to keep pushing constantly through the front leg and can focus on line choice, reading the water and picking the next bump.

In wing foiling and lowkite in light wind, it frees up the Veloce FF, Veloce LW and Veloce DW Front Wings. It promotes average speed, getting back up through lulls and freefly with a foil that retains its energy.

It also works well for freeride sessions when the rider is looking for a smooth Tail Wing, lightly loaded on the front foot and more controllable at low speed than an XTR model.

Lastly, it is an excellent shape for surfing and carving with style. It has enough power not to feel washed out, with fine tips for manoeuvrability, so paired with a Veloce FF for example it makes an excellent combo for laying down superb carves in weak swell. With that in mind, size the tail wing two sizes up relative to the front wing. XL with an M front wing, for example.

It is also a very good pure pumping tail wing, combining relative ease with top-level glide.

Its versatility is total, and at the highest level.

Avoid it if...

The Veloce DW is not the best option for building the basics of flat-water pumping. Even though it can work perfectly well in that discipline, its main focus remains downwind and wind sports built around glide.

To progress in dockstart, beach start or flat start with lots of support at very low speed, choose a Trail Tail Wing.

For more dynamic pumping, short carves and flat-water slalom, the Hyper Trail will be better suited.

For committed surf foiling, snaps, tight carves and landings, go for a Ypra Surf Carve Tail Wing or a more wave-oriented model.

If you are looking for maximum speed in downwind race with very precise handling, the Veloce XTR will go further in efficiency and high-speed stability.

What size?

Size choice depends on the Front Wing, rider weight, the craft used, the target average speed and the level of control you want.

A large Veloce DW Tail Wing brings more support at low speed, more longitudinal stability and more presence through transitions. It makes take-offs easier and secures bump changes, but creates more drag.

A smaller size frees up more speed, reduces front foot pressure and makes the foil more lively. In return, it requires more precision in pitch control, speed build-up and slow-speed phases.

The best choice is not automatically the smallest size. In downwind, a foil that is too free can require constant corrections and waste more energy than a slightly larger Tail Wing that is perfectly under control.

The size must stay consistent with the size and programme of the Front Wing. The larger, more supportive and lower-speed the Front Wing is, the more the Tail Wing needs to keep enough surface area to control the foil.

Note that with a Veloce FF for example, it makes an excellent combo for laying down superb carves in weak swell. With that in mind, size the tail wing two sizes up relative to the front wing. XL with an M front wing, for example.

What setup?

The Veloce DW is offered exclusively in a Lower architecture.

It works with a Lower Tail Shaft paired with a Lower Shim Tail. It cannot be mounted on an Upper Tail Shaft or an Upper Shim Tail.

The reference setup uses a Long Tail Shaft and a 0° Lower Shim Tail. This combination fully unlocks its programme by stabilising pitch, extending lines and giving the Tail Wing the leverage needed to control a downwind Front Wing.

Always start with this setup before tuning the foil. It delivers the balance intended by the designer and gives you a reliable baseline for understanding the effect of each change.

Why a lower setup?

The Lower setup places the Tail Wing below the Shim Tail, so further from the surface when the foil is flying high.

This position gives more margin before a tip breaches. It delays ventilation and helps maintain cleaner support in messy water or during a rapid pitch change.

The upper surface of the Tail Wing is also freer and less exposed to disturbances coming from the Front Wing and the rear system. The glide feels more natural, with very little noticeable resistance.

This setup is especially relevant in downwind, in freefly and in programmes where the foil needs to retain its energy while flying close to the surface.

What does Shim Tail 0° mean?

The 0° Shim Tail keeps the reference angle of attack calculated for the Veloce DW.

It does not mean the Tail Wing is horizontal relative to the fuselage. The angle needed for it to work is built directly into its carbon base.

The Shim Tail number only indicates the variation applied relative to that reference.

So 0° is always the best starting point before changing front foot pressure, pitch or the foil's overall character.

Which angle should you choose?

Start with the 0° Lower Shim Tail, which corresponds to the Veloce DW's reference setting.

A negative angle number progressively increases the Tail Wing's nose-up effect. It adds front foot pressure, makes it easier to bring the foil back up and gives more presence in slow phases, but increases drag and can work against the natural behaviour sought in downwind.

The -0.5° can be used when a combo is slightly lacking in front foot pressure or support on take-off. More pronounced values should answer a specific need and are rarely necessary with the right size choice.

The +1° reduces front foot pressure and frees up glide even more. It does, however, require more rear-foot control and can make take-offs, transitions and slow phases more demanding.

The right angle depends on the Front Wing, its size, Tail Shaft length, foil position in the boxes and your riding style. Only change one parameter at a time.

What Tail Shaft length?

The Long Tail Shaft is the Veloce DW's reference setup.

Its greater leverage stabilises pitch, makes height changes more progressive and extends lines. It pairs especially well with downwind Front Wings, whose large spans and efficiency require a clean, guided foil.

A Medium Tail Shaft makes the foil more compact, more reactive in pitch and easier to roll into short lines. It can be chosen with smaller Front Wings or for more wing foiling and freeride-oriented use.

The Short Tail Shaft moves clearly away from the Veloce DW's natural behaviour. It makes the foil much more reactive and reduces the longitudinal stability sought in downwind. It should be reserved for very specific pairings and goals.

A longer length does not directly bring more glide. It mainly improves control, smoothness and drive in the foil, which often allows the Front Wing's efficiency to be used more effectively.

Which Front Wing?

The Veloce DW naturally pairs with the Veloce DW and Veloce XTR Front Wings for downwind. It frees up their glide, limits front foot pressure and keeps enough support to control bump changes and slow phases.

With a Veloce FF or a Veloce LW, it creates a very efficient foil in wing foiling and lowkite in light wind. It promotes average speed, freefly and energy retention through lulls.

It can also be paired with a Sirus to reduce front foot pressure and free up the foil's glide even more. This setup is for a rider who wants to make a large, supportive Front Wing feel smoother and more natural.

With a Fluid, it softens front foot pressure and brings more glide, especially in wing foiling or freefly. It does, however, reduce some of the very committed character and rear-foot support typical of a more classic Fluid pairing.

It is not the reference pairing for pure pumping Front Wings like the Ultra Trail. Such a setup can work on flat water for an expert rider looking for a particular feel, but it remains marginal and does not match the natural programme of either product.

How should you progress with tuning?

Start with the Long Tail Shaft, the 0° Shim Tail and a Tail Wing size that is consistent with your Front Wing.

Use this setup long enough to understand the front foot pressure, take-off behaviour, stability through crossings and the foil's freedom at high speed.

Then only change one element at a time. A change in Shim Tail, Tail Shaft length, Tail Wing size or foil position in the boxes can deeply alter the overall balance.

Look for a foil that moves forward naturally without becoming unstable in slow phases. Reducing drag is only useful if you keep enough control to make use of that glide.

In downwind, the best setting is the one that lets you stay high, follow the bumps without constant corrections and retain energy for the whole run.

Compatibility

The Veloce DW Tail Wing is exclusively Lower.

It works with:

  • a V3 Lower Tail Shaft and a V3 Lower Shim Tail;
  • a Micro V3 Atmo Lower Tail Shaft and a Micro V3 Atmo Lower Shim Tail.

V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts and Shim Tails are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Tail Wing remains compatible with both diameters thanks to its standard footprint. You must use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail matching the fuselage diameter.

It cannot be mounted on an Upper Tail Shaft, an Upper Shim Tail or an Upper wedge.

Downwind safety

Downwind is a committed discipline that often takes place far from shore, with wind, current, swell and long lines. Before heading out, always check that the conditions match your level, your gear and your physical condition.

This advice is given for guidance only and never replaces your own judgement, local regulations or the recommendations of the relevant authorities. Every spot is different: check the weather, currents, restricted areas, tide times, exit options and the route's specific risks.

Before every run, carefully check your gear: foil condition, screw tightness, leash condition, foil attachment to the board, condition of the wing, lowkite or paddle, communication device battery life and accessibility of your safety equipment.

Never go out without suitable safety gear: impact vest or buoyancy aid, reliable leash, waterproof and fully charged communication device, visible tracking system, water, suitable thermal protection, distress flare, line cutter and possibly a helmet depending on the conditions. Get first-aid training, it is essential for you and your partners.

Your gear must also be clearly marked with your name and phone number. In the event of loss or separation from your board, this makes it easier to report and return it, and avoids triggering unnecessary sea searches.

Always let someone on shore know your route, departure time and estimated arrival time. Avoid going alone, especially on a new route. Ride with riders of a similar level, never alone, keep regular visual contact and have a plan B in case of breakage, fatigue, weather change or being unable to reach the finish point.

In downwind, the best gear is still the gear that lets you get back in safely. Prepare your run, stay humble in front of the water and always keep a margin.
