The Mob is a compact board that’s easy to surf and efficient in weak to medium waves.

Presentation

The shape of the Mob gives you a modern style (rollers, cut back, 360 °, air) in weak, even windy and multi-peaked waves. This compact, stable and floaty shape is packed with dynamism and boost: a real turbo when you need it and a delight in mediocre waves.

When paddling, it flies with its fast rocker. It’s very soft and buoyant nose makes it easy to get through waves. Waiting for waves at the line-up is also super chill thanks to its relatively wide tail and nose. This is what makes it possible for you to go down in length and have a responsive and playful board.

When surfing, it takes off early for its size thanks to the wide tail that is being pushed forward by the wave and its nose that doesn’t drag water. From the very first pump you’ll feel how amazingly well it performs thanks to its high natural acceleration. A pro rider will turn it into a rocket to score even in weak conditions.

An intermediate rider will love the immediate speed that makes it possible to get the most out of every sections.

L’Ours has completely reshaped this Mob to redefine its possibilities. The goal was to make it more lively by lightening the nose and pinching the tail, while keeping what makes the Mob so great.

It’s a board with a wide range of uses that will shine in carves as well as in tricks. The weight support is evenly distributed between the two feet unlike on narrower boards on which you might have 80% of the weight on the front leg.

The generous width at the tail also gives you more stability and power to rip weak waves; while still being less technical. The rail to rail of this new Mob is exceptional. We wrap turns on one rail then back on the other like on a surfboard. It is super maneuverable.

Explosive performance in less powerful waves, that’s the goal of this Mob.

We offer them in 8 sizes: 7’2, 7’6 7’11 and 8’3 with for each size a cool version with volume and a rad version with less liters for the more experienced who want to push the Mob concept to its highest performances.

Shape
Outline

The outline of the board is more compact, with for each size lengths closer to each other. Every board is quite compact, even those with very generous volumes. Maximum performance!

The volume distribution gives a very fluid and natural flow to this Mob, without any ruptures or camel deck. It has a beautiful glide and predictable drive.

The deck plan is domed for thin rails all the way down the board. We have volume in the center and a very thin shaped frame on the rails, synonymous with performance and elegance.

Nose

The round nose is less bulky when carving down a steep section, and the reduced surface lightens the first third of the board: the radicalism is progressing strongly and the feeling of liveliness is crazy.

Tail

The swallow tail brings radicalism to the surf without compromising on control. It offers strong support on one rail and the other, while freeing up the tail when you want to pitch up the board on a top turn, or tighten the turns. This is because the excess of water pressure can escape into the Vee of the swallow tail while letting the tips guide the trajectory.

Hull

Year after year, the hull gets more and more refined on these board shaped by L’Ours:

  • A belly at the nose (slightly convex) that spreads water and softens the contact with water when paddling or landing.
  • A simple concave at the center to stabilize the board when paddling and channeling water to the fins to maximize lift and acceleration with an important front foot grip.
  • A double concave at the fins which will stick to water and tunnel the flow to the outer fins (side fins and quads), aiming for maximum speed!
  • A slight V with a double concave at the tail to release the flow of water while giving the board a loose rail to rail.

This active hull gives it 50% more performance compared to a flat hull. It might not seem essential but it is crucial to get the best out of the rest of the shape. In a nutshell, the outline spreads the load on water and the hull dictates the directional flow of water.

Rails

The rails work in concert with the outline and the hull to offer optimal water penetration, nothing is left to chance:

  • The rail at the nose is super soft to avoid mistakes. It does not hang on to water for total directional freedom on steeper sections, while softening contacts when paddling.
  • At the center, the rail has a harder edge to guide the board and give better balance when paddling.
  • The hardest part of the rail is at the fins, more square than at the front. It gives extra precision in curves by defining lift angles, which amount to angle of inclination in the water. That will allow the board to naturally find the optimum inclination when responding to your weight pressure: not too deep or too shallow, just right for maximum grip, control and responsiveness.
  • The vertical rail at the tail allows for easy take off for even more speed.

The Cool version of this shape is very stable with its generous width.

The Rad version is narrower and therefore faster and more lively.

Buying guide

For whom?

Two possibilities:

1/ You want to shred in smaller waves, without having to use a longboard. The Mob has the speed potential to perform in soft waves like an Alley would do in hollow / steeper waves.

If you are in really good shape and have a really good technique, choose a Mob without too much volume to be able to move it instantly.

2/ You’re pretty chill but do not feel like going for a longboard. You want a board that will work in weak waves, the Mob is for you!

You may also want a board that can do everything, not too technical if you don’t ask for verticality, compact so it fits in the car, very stable when rowing and surfing, and with a modern look. Mob again!

The Mob delivers its best in a very specific wave range. But its main benefit is to allow everyone to surf a small board without any difficulty.

Unlike its flat counterparts, the Mob has some rocker. It’s not complicated at the take off.

For what?

Going from zero to 100 in a few meters in soft waves: that’s where the Mob really shines.

The mob is all about acceleration. So, it’s the ideal Board for riding in soft / weaker waves.

Its compact but harmonious outline, without excess, gives it great fluidity. But it also naturally makes it really well suited for the so-called horizontal moves: snaps, airs, floaters, 360 °.

This new Mob makes it possible to seek verticality and to wrap the turns in a very tight radius. It’s really a very manoeuvrable board.

Another strong point of this new version: it holds at high speed and in hollow waves. It does not saturate. This opens up an almost complete register of conditions.

Which size?

  • The 90L 7’2 is great for pros up to 70kg.
  • The 100L 7’2 is perfect for chill riders up to 70kg.
  • The 105L 7’6 is great for pros up to 80kg.
  • The 120L 7’6 is perfect for chill riders up to 80kg.
  • The 125L 7’11 is ideal for sporty people weighing 70 to 90kg.
  • The 140L 7’11 is super comfortable for chill riders between 70 and 90kg.
  • The 145L 8’3 is ideal for athletic people over 80kg.
  • The 160L 8’3 is super comfortable for chill riders over 80kg.

Which board bag?

Quiver partners?

We love the Mob for average to mediocre conditions: small waves, choppy waves, weak waves. That’s where it really outperforms other boards.

Obviously it might step over longboard territory, but a longboarder could also want a more compact board from time to time, for example when he encounters waves with very little room to ride and sneaky sections that he needs to catch. The Mob will be there.

The quivers that go well, from small waves to big waves:

  • Mob + Karmen or Alley : this is the quiver of the pure shortSUPer.
  • NFA + Mob + Karmen : this is the broadest quiver of feelings and ranges of use.
  • A 12’ + Mob + Alley : it is also a huge quiver of feelings and ranges of use.

The Mob will complete a surf quiver quite easily thanks to its incredible performance in small waves. But one will often hesitate to take it because it is the program of a good fish like the Pie or a Matata. A surfer will certainly want to spend time on his surfboards rather than on a SUP.

Which fin set-up?

This very wide tailed board is only available in quad, a very fast setup for those who like to use their thighs to push hard.

All the classical setups work, going for an exotic setup won’t yield much more performance, so sticking with a good set of rigid Performers will be perfect. Switch to Carvers if you want more directional stability (control).

Toledo and Wilson are top of the line fins, Fanning fins are more powerful for the same size. These Fins are only sold as a Tri-Fin set. To be completed with separately sold rear quads if you want all the configurations.

Take your recommended Fin size or just above. No less. You will need grip to harness its potentiel.

Reminder of the recommended FCS2 Fin sizes:

  • XS for those under 55 kg / 120 Lbs
  • S for 55 kg – 70 kg / 120 Lbs – 155 Lbs
  • M for 65 kg – 80 kg / 145 Lbs – 175 Lbs
  • L for 75 kg – 90 kg / 165 Lbs – 200 Lbs
  • XL for those over 85 kg / 190 Lbs.

Note that before the shape, it is the material of the fins that makes the performance. Remember that the stiffer the fins, the better it works. Yes, a pro needs good fins, but an amateur also needs to go fast because speed is the basis of all maneuvers.

Never take shorter, unless perhaps for kiting.

A surfer who wants more speed, more beautiful curves, cleaner surfing, working on his speed gain, will take one size above the recommended size.

In a setup that mixes sets, consider that the front side fins do the grip and the acceleration; and the rear ones do the pivot, the drive and a little bit of grip. So, focus on good side fins adapted to your need for power and speed.

Flat inner-sided quad rears have more grip and less glide. A stronger grip, but a top speed and a handling one notch below the curved inner faces (20/80 for example). Favor the flat sides despite everything.

And too big quad rears totally block the handling of your board, giving you the impression that its tail “floats” too much in the curves. Hateful. Better too small than too big.

How long should your paddle be?

Your height no more and no less, ideally in Pro version for weight. You can take it a bit shorter if you are into radical driving. Some cut it at the height of their eyebrows.

Quel leash ?

Take thelength of your board: 7’ to 8’.

Under shoulder high waves, reduced diameter (6mm) will make you gain a lot of speed. Above you must have a minimum of 7mm.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your life jacket.

Equipments

The Mob FSP Pro are equipped with our premium 5mm thick 3D Function pad for maximum grip and comfort. This non-slip deck coating is “smart” as it provides different sensations in different parts of the deck, with groovings and openings designed for proprioception. Your feet are better positioned and informed of their exact position to give you a more precise surf.

An ergonomic carrying handle on the deck makes it easy to handle the board out of the water. It also allows you to get the board out of the water with only one hand, which is handy!

In addition, we set these boards up with 4 FCS II boxes. The anchoring is firm and therefore the most efficient and solid. It is simply the highest standard of fin box on the market. You can therefore set up your quad with all types of fins according to your desires and your surfing style by accessing an almost endless catalog of top-of-the-range fins.

The pressure relief screw is automatic. It is made up of a waterproof membrane that allows air to pass through. It will handle the common variations in pressure between the outside and the inside of your board. The durability gain is considerable, without you having to worry about it.

The leash plug is indestructible as it is glued into the high density PVC sandwich of the deck. The guarantee of not losing your board in the rocks for example, nor of seeing water seep through the plug because the PVC is waterproof.

To summarize the features of the Mob

  • 4 FCS II Glass Flex fins, for Quad mounting ( 2 Carver L/118mm side fines + 2 Carver S/100mm side fines)
  • 4 front and back FCS II side boxes of high resistance reinforced with high density PVC for quad mounting.
  • 5 mm pad: deck covering designed for great comfort and absolute grip.
  • Integrated central carry handle on the board deck.
  • Leash plug Concrete fixed at tail to never lose your board.
  • Automatic vent screw. (LINK TO THE HOW TO)
